Motorhead - Overkill (1979)

I feel like I've pissed away 23 years of my life not listening to this album. It's a weird feeling.

This album is proto-thrash, face-meltingly fast and loud for it's time blah blah blah; but it has this old 50's rock n' roll vibe which makes sense, Lemmy is a well-documented aficionado and every interview I have read or seen with him he drops some knowledge about good music.

That's a great album right there, probably my second favorite by them after Ace of Spades.

Alfred 02-12-2009 08:29 PM

Only Motorhead album I've heard. I guess I should listen to Ace Of Spades next?

You started with the best, so anything thereafter will be disappointing if you expect more :p:

Nektar - A Tab in the Ocean

Phenomenal space-Krautrock for the adventurous and the supposedly the band's magnum opus. Glad I got this.

http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/7...27ypovlnp0.jpg
Arena - The Visitor

Modern day neo-prog with an edge and a story to tell, highlighted by the kickass guitar antics of John Mitchell.

Uriah Heep - Demons & Wizards

Not much to be said here. A classic album I finally got my grubby paws on, and I like it quite a bit.

SBB - Wolanie o Brzek Szkla

The best band that nobody here on MB knows about. S.B.B. are the one and only prodigal son of Poland's 1970's progressive rock scene to obtain any success at all during the height of Communism in Eastern Europe. And this album in particular is GOOD **** IMO, as I've never heard a band who sounds anything like this group...

You're using that term rather loosely. Everything else by Nektar I have is great but it's definitely nowhere near the avant-garde exchange which kosmische musik crafted.

Absolutely. Ace of Spades is a classic.

I also think 1916 is worth checking out. It's a little uneven but when it's on, it's really on. And it ends with a slow song which, believe it or not, is actually really good and has pretty cool lyrics. I have to say I think Lemmy is kind of underrated in that department, he's actually written some pretty good lyrics over the years but they don't get much notice because of the type of band Motorhead is.

Nooo, although i do like this album. The first track is stupidly overlong but for the whole record it's a tense affair which i like.

And the Volcano link crapped up so i'm downloading it again, along with...

classic album and MOREOVER a classic movie. In a laugh-out-loud bad kind of way. My favourite scene was when Prince goes out of his way to humiliate the poor woman he is meant to be seducing by pushing her into a freezing pond... They should totally re-issue this album with a second disc containing all the songs of the other bands in the film, Prince wrote them I think

I doubt they have it on Netflix. You should try an movie community online for links to it, that's the only way I was able to find it.
