Keep listening to Favourite Worst Nightmare, it will eventually grow on you. I picked it up the day it came out and put it on but didn't really enjoy it all too much, however I kept on plugging away at it and found it had a hidden charm to it that, far more polished than "Whatever..." was.

Anyhow I got this from Jackhammer.

Asian chicks are so f'n hot.

I have no idea what yer talkin' about, my campus is bathed in Asia and I'll be bum-tiggered if I ever saw one better than a seven.

Hot Asian chicks are hot.

Last CD Purchased

Van Morrison Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl. Timeless great album given great live treatment by Van the Man. None of the accompanying musicians are named, which is a shame.

Too bad so few chances to go to show - one in LA and 2 in NYC. Read in RS that tour is being considered. Regrettably, Van is such a curmudgeon you're never sure what you're gonna get.

What I don't understand is why Warner's has not issued a remasterd version of this album, nor Moondance for that matter, nor His Band and Street Choir for that matter. Lots of lesser albums have been remastered more than once.

Go figure.

Virgil Cane 03-28-2009 05:40 PM

Hey, I ain't no groupie, lessen it might be for Reba.

Santana - Caravanserai

Yes people, there are good albums beyond Santana III and Abraxis in this man's discography, with Caravanserai being the notable beginning of his forays into serious jazz-fusion (with a touch of salsa). Enjoyable stuff!

Gentle Giant - In a Glass House

Took awhile, but I'm finally digging into Gentle Giant's discography, and liking what I hear quite a bit as well. This particular mess of polyrhythmic goodness is easily on par with anything Yes or King Crimson did back in the good ol' days. :pimp:

Good, now go get and listen to R before you accidentally rate Songs for the Deaf as highly as everyone else.

You listen to Fu Manchu right? You should check out Kyuss -- Josh Homme's first act. They were among the first desert rockers.

Alfred 03-29-2009 01:11 PM

Yeah, I've been meaning to get a Kyuss album for a while now. I'll add them to my little list as well.

The Crying Light by Antony and the Johnsons. In all honesty, I bought this just because of the cover.

jackhammer 03-29-2009 03:11 PM

Soundtrack to a Slovakian film with a bit of everything on there. Trip hop, cool beats, rock etc

I quite like The Toasters. Their brand of old school Ska is refreshing amidst all the crappy Ska Punk bands but this was a let down.

Very very good. Debut will definatley be getting a lot more listens. She sounds a lot like one of my favorite female vocalists, Missy Higgins, if you really liked Bjork I definatley reccomend her.

Just out of curiosity, how popular is Missy Higgins in America?

FaSho 03-30-2009 02:54 PM

She has one signle (Where I Stood) that gets a good bit of radio play, but that's about it.

I haven't heard Debut myself, only Volta and Homogenic. I just figured she'd be your thing, glad it worked out!

I got this from Jackhammer yesterday, very good album

http://nightmage.org/music/Agalloch/...ntle/cover.jpg

if you like Doom/Death metal this is a great choice.

scottsy 03-30-2009 03:42 PM

To whoever it was who was asking... I know that Missy Higgins is as Australian as I am (although I currently reside in the US)... but as fars her current touring schedule and residency status... well, I have no clue...

scottsy 03-30-2009 03:47 PM

Her debut album was somethingus Aussie went nuts over, via mass promotion through the national youth network, Triple J... I had a friend who absolutely loved her stuff, I thought it was reasonably good singer / songwriter - ish type stuff!

Brilliant album that. Some of the finest jazz-rock you'll ever hear. Just a shame about them following it up with the pretty damn lame Gaucho.

I'd say their big reunion album, Two Against Nature is pretty decent (not exactly a knockout first listen, but a grower nonetheless), if not quite up there with the earlier works though. For me it's all about Aja, Can't Buy a Thrill and Pretzel Logic. If you haven't already got the latter two I couldn't recommend them enough.

The Smiths - Rank

- Worth it for the version of 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' alone.
