Drop Nineteens - Delaware (1992)

I'm pretty familiar with the British/ Irish shoegaze band(s) of the '90's, so now I've decided to see what America was squirting out at around that time.

Great album. Not terribly original but still a great album. STAR and Starflyer 59 are highly recommended too.

Ice Cube—Lethal Injection
Not bad but not really anything to write home about either. It feels very much like a lazy album to me: very little of the fire of the previous album remains and Cube's rapping seems kind of half-assed, like he banged out the vocals in a weekend or something.

The Tallest Man on Earth - Shallow Grave

Villagers - Becoming A Jackal

Both were recommendations, and both are wonderful.

Dramarama - Cinéma vérité

Long lost mid 80s indie classic.
The missing link between Echo & The Bunnymen & early REM.

You'll all be worshipping this a few months down the line you mark my words.

Nice cover of Bowie's Candidate too. Shame they had to spoil it by doing what every 80s indie band does at some point, Cover the Velvet Underground. Femme Fatal this time.

Thanks for sharing this, I'd never heard of the band before and am checking it out right now. Great stuff. "Anything Anything" is incredible.

There are a few excellent songs on there...Ghetto Bird, You Know How We Do It, Bop Gun, and Down For Whatever, and many other good ones. Some others I can see as being lazy, as you say (Lil Ass Gee and When I Get To Heaven for example). It's pretty fresh in my mind because I played quite a bit of Ice Cube about 4 weeks ago when packing for my move.

I went shopping in cyberspace this evening, and picked up the following:

Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart

Mary Timony Band - The Shapes We Make
Now featuring Medications/Faraquet members Devin Ocampo (drums) and Chad Molter (bass)

Quite the haul for you there sidewinder. I actually picked up Arcwelder's debut, Jacket Made in Canada earlier this week and loved it. I think I might check out Everest and then decide whether or not it's worth hunting down the rest of their discography.

My latest haul was this little gem:

Aydio - Nonentity (2010)

I apologize for the small album artwork, I can't find anything bigger on Google. Aydio is a downtempo DJ from London who I found last year when someone sent me his debut EP, Deltitnu. I'm not as familiar with the distinguishing characteristics of electronic music but his last.fm profile has him listed as dub and ambient, but I've also heard him described as chillout. I posted some of his stuff in the Trip-Hop thread, but it's not exactly the trippist of trip-hop. Still he's definitely worth a look if you're after some new music to put on while you're reading or need some new background noise.
