Killing Joke - MMXII (2012)

I'm calling it right now, album of the motherfucking year. In a way it's a celebration of the band's 30 year history but not in a way that makes it seem schizophrenic but rather in a way that just flows naturally. The production is a little bit more reminiscent of 2006's Hosannas From the Basement of Hell, so a little murky, but still great. The only gripe I really have is with the artwork.

It was good man definatley not there best. There experimenting a bit more and I'm not sure if there doing it quiet right. Like in the opener 'Gelid Ascent' where it relies on a bunch of synthesizers to bombard you through the majority of the song while they really didn't go anywhere with it. Other tracks that resemble this more experimental edge are 'exorcismic breeding knife' and the last track on the album 'Authentic Pyrrhic Remission' (Which is my personal favorite from the album I like how it comes full circle). Barnes songwritting is real good on here. Going from manic depressive personalities to downright schizophrenic like on 'Dour Percentage' to 'We Will Commit Wolf Murder'. I see this as a more experimental record as opposed to there other albums which relied more on psychedelic pop. Which this one does touch on at some points. like the mentioned 'dour percentage' which provides some decent changes in time signature along with the shortest track on the album 'Malefic Dowery' which both reflects there psychedelic pop image from circa 'Satanic Panic in the Attic' (my personal favorite). It was good I liked it. I'm just kind of concerned that they're not going to evolve in there sound. Some of the experimentation on here is pretty muddled. But, the good outweighs the bad on here Barnes lyrics on here are pretty entertaining and they still manage to make most of there songs sound like epic medley's. This is still Of Montreal just not at there best. What you think of it?
