I just listened to Mala In Cuba, the latest album from the dubstep producer Mala, made by actually traveling to Cuba to record and sample various Cuban musicians, and then turning it into a decidedly non-Cuban music. It is an utterly fantastic record. Imagine Latin jazz with pulsating low end and scattery Electronic beats, horns and congas backed by earth-rattling bass. I've only had one listen, but my first impressions are very, very strong.

Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat - An Interlude to the Outermost

Having listened to, and absolutely loved, their latest two albums, I finally got round to this. It's pretty hard to find a download for but I have it on Spotify so life is good. This is a more folk inspired release unlike their latest, which is all gothic and mad shit.

The Bullet

ten out of twelve tracks in. So far, pretty good, but far from his best album. Most of the tracks are typical pentatonic improv from Bucket, which is good, don't get me wrong, but nothing he's never done before. Some of the tracks really stand out, though. In particular, "The Siphoning Sequence" struck me as being great.

this is by far my favorite album by them....but then i found them right when this one was released....so i was able to watch their interesting progression....but this one always holds up in my mind....specifically A Scatterbrain Sings of Christians and the Ghoul Bares Teeth, Salt and You Will Reap A Whirlwind

if you want any of their other recordings just ask

i have them all in different formats

I got really excited when I read your review but that track didn't do much for me at all It sounded like a bunch of Cuban musicians had heard a Lee Perry album for the first time and tried to recreate it with mixed results. I may still give the album a listen to make a more informed opinion.

That's not even close to the best song on the album, I just have a tendency to post whatever song I'm listening to at the time, and that was it. And honestly, I'm a novice when it comes to electronic music. What sounds great to me might be terrible to you, a veritable scholar. Let me know what you think, and if you think it sucks, point me to something similar but good.

I got a couple Olivia Tremor Control LPs in the mail form ebay. Been getting interested in psychedelic indie bands lately, and they seemed like a good start. Not sure what it is yet but I like em so I decided to take the plunge.

I've been listening to a lot of 2012 albums since I managed to go the entire year without listening to many of them. The top albums lists you guys have been putting up are very helpful for seeing what I missed! I plan on picking up 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! at this point, but hopefully some others once they have time to grow on me.

Album recorded by Joe Meek 2 years before he released Telstar.
Same sort of thing as that song, a normal rock band with lots of strange bleeps bloops & effects going on in the background to make a kind of sci-fi B movie soundtrack.

Pretty innovative stuff to say it came out in 1960.

Matthew Dear - Beams: Oh yes, I liked this very much. Top 5-10, certainly.



Motion Sickness of Time Travel - Luminaries & Synastry: I thought I was grabbing the 2012 release, and grabbed 2011's instead. Oops. Pleasant ambient though.



White Lung - Sorry: For a Canadian riot grrrl band, I'm pretty impressed with this. It's short and sweet and noisy. Not bad.



Dan Deacon - America: Alright, if a little more positive sounding than I like from indie-esque electronica.



Unsane - Wreck: Didn't expect to enjoy this, because I thought it was going to be much more abrasive. I was pleasantly surprised. This has just the right weight to it.



Moon Duo - Circles: A step up from Mazes. Tracks tend to focus on one idea and repeat it, but they're great ideas.



Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat - Wertimnotgonnabothertypingit: I feel a bit like this didn't meet its full potential. What was good was great, but the rest was largely unremarkable.



Twin Shadow - Confess: What's the big deal about this one? It's just run of the mill synth pop?



Susanne Sundfor - The Silicone Veil: Honestly, while it wasn't actually bad, I was still disappointed with this for being The Brothel Pt. 2. There's nothing more dull than an artist releasing an album that would've been great if only they hadn't done it before. Feel the same way about Beach House this year.
