I discovered with horror that at some point I must have accidently deleted all the compilation albums from my hard drive.

Naturally there were two albums that were replaced instantly...

Very very harcore punk. Mix of thrash and hardcore, I love it. D.R.I fans will love it.

Pretty decent so far. It's not the Helicopter Helicopter I loved, but it's still good.

Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night (1989)

Devilish dream-pop written and arranged by David Lynch, complete with a jazzy finish that literally tickets you to the stars and back. It helps that Julee is one hell of a vocalist too.

Colin Blunstone - One Year (1971)

The first solo album by the man who fronted The Zombies before they shattered, and a pretty good effort overall. It's different than what I expected, but the orchestral flourishes add a nice romantic element to the proceedings. Highly recommended.

livetune (feat. Hatsune Miku) - Re:package (2008)

Somewhere between guilty pleasure and awesomeness is Japanese electronic duo livetune's Re:package, which features singing from a computer generated idol made from Vocaloid software of all things. Simple stuff, but leagues better than most commercially oriented electro-pop.

So it's worth looking into? I've never heard of anything regarding livetune, but judging by what little you wrote, I'm gonna see if I can't find their stuff.

Thanks...but I will wait till after release to check it out. ;) I'm in the process of checking out those that I never heard and revisiting those I have, so I'm in no rush. And speaking of, I got the first yesterday, haven't heard it yet.

The past two days:

Black Heart Procession - Six and Two

All I have to say about this band is my god where have you been all my life. Their music is hauntingly beautiful, so bleak yet so full of life if that makes any sense at all. If you haven't heard these guys before then do yourself a favour and check them out!

Blueprint - 1988

New hip hop artist last.fm recommended me and I was pretty pleased with the album I got. It does a very good job at paying homage to the hip hop sounds of the late '80's early '90's yet retains newer influences and beat styles of today.

Woodbox Gang - I've Killed Men

Been wanting to get these guys for awhile but when I concluded that I'd never find a free download link I buckled and bought it off Amazon. Well worth the 9 bucks because this is some incredibly good Country music. Not quite as dark as some of the other artists I listen to, but there is a somber tone over a lot of the tracks along with a good amount of humor.

Maroons - Ambush

Haven't listened to it yet but it's Lateef the Truth Speaker with Chief Xcell (of Blackalicious fame) so it's gotta be good.

Joey Allcorn - 50 Years Too Late

Another one of my Gothic Country artists who I found through my searches. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I'm pretty adamant that it'll be good.

Lucero - 1372 Overton Park

savannah was kind enough to send this my way, wasn't even aware Lucero had an album coming out this year but with the lack of new country albums this year I'm excited to say the very least.

Pine Box Boys - Arkansas Killing Time

I actually bought this album by mistake (I got these guys confused with the Woodbox Gang) but it's one of those happy mistakes, much like I was to my parents. These guys go about things in a very humorous style, some of the lyrics in their songs can be quite outlandish at times, often resulting in nervous laughter. Another fine addition to my ever expanding collecting of darker styled country.

^ Blueprint is a terrific rapper.
I had the pleasure of meeting him/seeing him perform live.

That's awesome man, just going off his music he sounds like he'd be a pretty cool guy to sit down and have a beer or smoke a joint with.

Kirby 09-26-2009 01:29 AM

Haha, when he got off stage, he pretty much got drunk off his ass.
And then Slug (of Atmosphere), Abstract Rude, and Blueprint got on stage and had a freestyle/cypher type thing go on. It was nice.

I figured they would be right up your alley, and I'm surprised you haven't listened to them until now. I liked Two quite a bit. I'll probably play some more this weekend. After you've binged on them for a while maybe you'll like Three Mile Pilot...same singer (and maybe another guy) but it's a bass-guitar driven rock/indie sound that's still very dark. Their bassist is one of the two core members of Pinback.

Cansei de ser Sexy - Rarities, B-Sides & Live
I'm really enjoy this. Insanely catchy and cool to hear all differing versions of songs.

Seizure Salad/IndienSoci - The New The Good The Bad and The Ugly Soundtrak
I bought this at a Seizure Salad show. They're from Calgary, Alberta and play ambient/experimental/garage rock kind of stuff. I like their variety. Custom album art too. Got it on cd and cassette.

Old Crow Medicine Show - Tennessee Pusher
Not really my thing but I thought I'd check out an album because I remember Against Me! covered their song Wagon Wheel a couple years ago and I really enjoyed it. Still haven't heard that particular song yet.

Drive-By Truckers - Fine Print: A Collection of Oddities & Rarities 2001-2008

Solid album, to me it's a brand new album and not just a collection of crappy songs put out in order to bring in some extra bucks.

Every Time I Die - Hot Damn!

I checked out Gutter Phenomenon a few years ago and like some of that and saw them live. Now I'm going through their discography and discovering most of it is not really my thing. I haven't listened to the last two albums yet but so far I think they've gotten progressively better with each release.

I haven't really gotten into it that much. I guess partly because the production is inferior to the other two, nothing on it's really grabbed me yet.
