Cat Stevens - Tea For The Tillerman
One of those classics you hear about. Liking it so far.

Horse The Band - Secret Rhythm Of The Universe
I had one song from this for the longest time. Couldn't find it for the longest time but my hunting has improved. Not as good as the later albums, sloppy, bad mix but I liked it and it shows how they started.

Every Time I Die - Gutter Phenomenon
Favorite of theirs so far.

No Age - Losing Feeling
Excellent upon first listen. These guys are one of my favorite bands.

I'm super pissed the only show they're playing near me is 21 & up. Hope I'm able to sneak in with some buddies who actually can get in.

I got Hospice by The Antlers a few days ago and I enjoyed it quite a bit, how is it compared to In the Attic of the Universe?

Son of a bitch, hope you enjoy yourself you lucky bastard.

I'm sure if I can't get in I'll be able to enjoy their set curbside, it is a small venue afterall. :(

Hahaha.

I'm figuring the bouncers might find the monocle overkill and see right through my plans.

LoathsomePete 09-26-2009 04:43 PM

Hmm... you should bring a pair of opera binoculars to compensate.

Joe Buck Yourself - Joe Buck Yourself

The name made me chuckle and he's friends with Hank Williams III so I figured it was worth a try.

Kammerflimmer Kollektief - Cicadidae

Some dark jazz I was recommended, I find it helps with writing and I've got mid terms coming up.

I think it would drain the energy from me. They are both pretty intense albums. I think i would need something a little lighter and a little less relentless before i got to the end.

Interesting. I have to say I don't find either album super-intense but it's always fascinating how different people respond to the same music.

Mojo 09-26-2009 06:56 PM

It's the same with a lot of sludge or drone for me. Thats probably my preference when it comes to metal but if i were to play some of these bands back to back then i would likely need something a little mellower or maybe poppy to follow.

LoathsomePete 09-26-2009 07:52 PM

Well that Kammerflimmer Kollektief album was wank, I'm starting to get a little annoyed with the stuff last.fm has been recommending me lately. Seems I've worked my way through all the good stuff and now it's just recommending me the crap. Anyhow I think these three will be my last of the night:

http://atlmetal.com/blog/wp-content/...ll-300x300.jpg

Immortal - All Shall Fall

Follow up to 2002's amazing album Sons Of Norther Darkness and it's just as good. Really shows how they've matured as a band as their sound is far more controlled while still being just as abrasive.

The Builders and the Butchers - The Builders and the Butchers

The album artwork looked intriguing so I figured I'd give it a shot.

http://www.buzzine.com/wp-content/up...d_20080708.jpg

Th Legendary Shack Shakers - Swampblood

Been meaning to look up these guys for awhile now, decided to try their newest album and work my way back if it appeals to me.

scottsy 09-26-2009 08:03 PM

Hope those both worked out well for you! Interesting that you chose the first one by cover art impression... there's something to be said about the correlation between creative artwork and creative music... usually the more creative cover art goes hand in hand with something interesting musically...

I still have a bunch of discs I gotta upload to my device... some stuff by the Sundays, some Midnight Oil, New Order and even some early Sting (when he still made good music and was renowned for that rather than his whol tantric sex thing...)

was getting sick with The Cramberries. Each track seems like a remake of the track "Zombies". But last week listened to "will you remember?", and it caught my attention. So i searched it and thought of downloading the album:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000001E9I.jpg

very nice album. A bit redundant all in all, but there is some really good bits in it. My favorites: Salvation, I just shot John Lennon, Will you remember? and Bosnia

I'm still at my first listen so some other favorites might reveal.

I always found the Cranberries a bit of a bland experience for my ears... Dolores O'Rierdan (sp) had a great voice but was seemingly let down by substandard material... like you said.... wongs sometimes sound a bit too much like Zombies...

However one exception has to be the very gorgeous "Linger" which I always felt was a very captivating song. Best Cranberries song IMO.

One thing I very maturely find quite funny when listening to the lyrics from the chorus of that song is imagining she's singing about a fart.

Do you have to, do you have to,
Do you have to let it linger?

NumberNineDream 09-27-2009 12:15 PM

I don't have this song, nor any of the Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? album.

Yeah they tend to be a bit bland sometimes. I have their best of but i'd never go out and buy one of their studio albums, their best of is all the Cranberries i need. But they do have some really good singles, namely Dreams, Linger, Zombie, Salvation and Free To Decide.

I feel that intrumentally, it surpasses Hospice. But conceptually and lyrically Hospice has an edge.
Both are great albums though!
