I'll hopefully won't have that much difficulty with this one... At least I'll have it out of my system. :p:

if you have never heard it, there is actually a lot to like on the album...as long as you are in a pop punk kind of mood. i had it at an age where i couldn't buy new music at any time. 7th grade...no job...yeah my music intake was low. so i wore the album out and now i just don't listen to the offspring anymore.

edit: i don't listen to them as much. i am not totally averse to the offspring...in fact they are still on my ipod. i just don't usually find myself in a mood to listen to them.

They may well do actually. Haven't listened to that yet.

Good call on Journal For Plague Lovers Melissa. What Manics stuff have you heard up to now?

Nothing sadly.
I was just in the store, and remembered that you recommended that band immensely.

Mojo 01-27-2010 03:38 PM

Ah i see well that album is their latest and therefore may not be the best place to start. It's a good album though and their best for quite some time.

I would recommend The Holy Bible and Generation Terrorists to begin with. Everything Must Go was their massive commercial album and Lifeblood is very different but vastly under-rated. Theres not many reasons to bother yourself with the others though.

NumberNineDream 01-27-2010 03:41 PM

^ I think I'll download them from the net, as I don't recall seeing any of them in the store (I just checked the artwork, and none seem familiar :/)

Mojo 01-27-2010 03:43 PM

Cool. You'd be fine with just Generation Terrorists (the debut) and The Holy Bible under your belt before you check out JFPL really.

only half way through but i can already say with certainty that this is their best one yet :D

That's what I like to hear. So far I've only listened to their Diamonds in The Sky single. Apparently they were the band that played on a Pepe Deluxe album or something. That's what led me to look into them.

Hey man, that couch ain't gonna' save ya'. One of the great things of this forum is getting to see members break away from what they're accustomed to.

Living Colour - Vivid (1988)

Holds up surprisingly well for a late 80's metal album, partly because these guys looked up to Hendrix and Sly Stone rather than Aerosmith or Duran Duran. Funky, catchy riff fests that you turn up in your car without feeling guilty.

http://cdn.7static.com/static/img/sl...015246_350.jpg
Seal - S/T (1991)

I listened to a lot of this bloke's singles back in grade school, but it was only recently that I came to get an actual album and realize what a rarity Seal is in the music world -- he's commercially viable beyond what normally appeals to me, but at the same time he's definitely more experimental and interesting than most of the trash that was getting exposure back then. Soul, early House and electronica touches...heck, even a few prog. rock moments can be found here on this exceptional debut. Too bad he could never quite live up to his work here in later years.

New to this forum, my first post. Just bought the Charlotte Gainsbourg record. Not sure how to rate it yet...sounds alright.

Being part of this forum will hopefully get me into even more of high quality music (in all genres)

That's an understatement, I'm on my fourth spin so far... I love the song "Bernie" most... it's like a weird blend of Bush, Alice in Chains, and Weezer.

Edit:

I also decided to grab their follow up album:

Failure - Fantastic Planet

and

Handsome Boy Modeling School - So... How's Your Girl?

sidewinder 01-29-2010 02:13 PM

Fantastic Planet is also very nice. I'm actually getting chills right now thinking about their music...I must play them again soon. Hasn't been that long since the last time, but still. They are great. I hate to think of them in relation to Bush as I pretty much hate Bush, but I see where you're coming from. They do have that common "alternative rock" sound. There are other bands I usually compare Failure to but I can't remember at the moment.

It's like Siouxsie from Siouxsie and the Banshees was put in an isolation room with lots of reverb and as few instruments as possible. Lo Fi Goth is it even a genre? Judging by this it is and it has potential.
