I like the artwork. Why do you think they're beyond good?

abdullah424 06-16-2010 04:09 PM

Okkervil River is actually one of my favorite bands so I'm definitely bias. They put on a great live show and Will is an amazing lyricist. I've probably listened to their albums way more than is healthy.

Just for the record though those aren't their first two albums. Give Black Sheep Boy a listen if you enjoy those because it's the shizznit too.

TheCunningStunt 06-16-2010 04:11 PM

I meant they're the first 2 albums I've gone for. They were the last 2 in their discography, I just liked the look of 'em. If I like them I'll go for Black Sheep. I'm halfway through The Stages Names, sounds like a pretty decent album.

I'm not sure but since the girl is in red and the guy is in white they could be twisted together into a human peppermint stick. I see what they did there

!Forward Russia! - Life Process

Very cool 2nd album from Forward Russia. At first listen, I was not a fan, but everytime I relisten I love this album more and more. Very cool post-punk band.

I've heard the title track, and it sounds pretty decent (that lady's got a hell of a voice!), so I think I'll be getting that one myself soonish.

As for my first new musicks spree for quite a while...

Brendan Perry - Ark

^ Brendan 'Dead Can Dance' Perry's new album. Been waiting such a long time for this.

Jem - Down To Earth
http://media.musictoday.com/store/ba...rge/J2CD02.JPG

^ Supposedly quite the eclectic mish-mash of styles with this one. I like the one or two songs I've heard, so what the hell eh.

A Fine Frenzy

^ If there's anything better than a hot redhead chick it's a hot redhead chick who makes cool music. That said, I haven't exactly been so impressed with what I've heard, but I'll reserve judgement 'til I've heard some more.

Kate Havenevik - Melankton
http://img.noiset.com/images/album/k...-art-6384.jpeg

^ On the other hand, what I've heard of this little Norweigan maestro is very good stuff. Can't wait 'til I've got the time to give this one a full listen.

Bulldog 06-17-2010 11:22 AM

And finally...

Frou Frou - Details

^ This one should be fairly awesome from what I've heard too.

Bulldog if you're after an Esthero album I would recommend you picking up her 1998 album Breath From Another instead.

I've got quite a few albums to give a first listen before I do, but I'll go after it soonish.

Lisa Gerrard - The Black Opal

A hard day's doing nothing wouldn't be complete without one more album for luck eh.

Charlemagne 06-17-2010 04:02 PM

A compilation called All Punks Got Is Each Other, which is bands covering songs by bands on Plan-It-X, haven't listened to it yet, but I have fallen in love with this label over the past few months, and I expect a lot of good things.

I finally found a good link to the new Grand Magus. I haven't listened to it yet but I read [and heard from the singles] that its more straight up Heavy Metal than the other albums. I'm going to give it a listen in just a bit.

Two more I probably wont listen to for a while owing to the world cup and all...

TheCunningStunt 06-18-2010 03:23 AM

I've been completing/adding to a few discographies lately. Finished Eels and almost finished The Cure. :D

Too many albums to remember/name.

School Of Seven Bells - Alpinisms
This album is decent enough, there's only a few songs that really grab my attention such as 'Half Asleep', 'Iamundernodisguise' and 'Connjur' but there's no bad songs on it as such. Overall it's a nice blend of dream-pop and electronica that i can see them improving upon, and with a follow-up album Windstorm coming out soon, which i'm looking forward to, hopefully Alpinisms is only hinting at the genius to come.

I agree with you that there is a lot of average stuff on Alpinisms, but the good songs are really really good. Just that makes me want to check out Windstorm since I feel like they can only get better.

edit: and twins...really hot twins.

Blind Pilot - 3 Rounds and a Sound

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...LL._SS500_.jpg

Don't think I've ever heard this particular Ice Cube, except maybe a few songs. Haven't heard the Blind Pilot.

Charlemagne 06-18-2010 09:39 PM

^ That Blind Pilot album is really good, I think you'll enjoy it (completely opposite music than Ice Cube though!)

http://images.emusic.com/music/image...88/300x300.jpg

New Math and Physics Club! My day just got 100x happier.

sidewinder 06-18-2010 09:42 PM

Haha, yeah I wasn't thinking it would be like Ice Cube. :D Here's another completely different one from the above 3. Only got it on the recommendation of a few friends, because otherwise what I've heard from LCD I'm not a fan of. I liked a couple songs on the last album but felt otherwise it was stale and recycled electronic music. We'll see how this one pans out. I've heard the single "Drunk Girls" and don't really like it. Again, recycled and a bit dumb. I have been looking for fun summer music though so whatever.

LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...YL._SS500_.jpg

Charlemagne 06-18-2010 09:44 PM

Yeah sorry, I can't say anything good about the new LCD Soundsystem, because I personally don't like it, still give it a listen and see what you think, I still recommend the album I posted above for fun summer music, because I love recommending these guys!

clutnuckle 06-18-2010 10:18 PM

I kind of liked the new LCD Soundsystem ASIDE Drunk Girls, which was pretty bad.
