I've been catching up on some of the EP's released this year.

The Joy Formidable - It's Just A World Apart (2011)

If you enjoyed The Big Roar (2011) then you'll definitely like this as it's more of the same. Two of the songs are in Welsh too (I think), but don't let that deter you.

Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax Hypersleep Dialogues (2011)

I'm interested in hearing what this band has been up to over the last few years.

Riverside - Memories In My Head (2011)

One of the better progressive metal bands out there, definitely interested in hearing what they've been working on over the years.

Deathspell Omega - Diabolus Absconditus (2011)

I'm a little surprised to hear something new so recently, but after last year's Paracletus (2010) I definitely confirmed that DSO are not one-hit wonders. Definitely looking forward to devouring this.

Alcest - Le secret (2011)

Re-release of their 2005 EP, I've never heard either, so I'll be grabbing the original copy to give it some comparison.

That's just the start, there's a lot of EP's coming out this year that interest me.

Haven't listened to this yet, STOKED to. From everything I've heard, it's absolutely mind blowing.

Crystal Antler's Tentacles. Great album, was recommended by Doctorsoft. Awesome psychedelic punk type stuff. Heavy on the organ.

A tribute to Nirvana's Nevermind. Haven't heard the whole thing yet, what I have heard has been kinda... meh. Except for the cover of "Stay Away" by Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band. That was absolutely perfect, and the rest of the album is worth downloading for that single song. What makes it even better is it's a soul/jazz band playing a grunge song... which is better than it sounds, I promise.

I've just downloaded this and I'm listening to it now. I see they've recycled more of their material haha, 'Greyhounds In The Slips' and 'Popinjay' were already released as standalone singles a couple of years ago and 'Chwyrlio' is basically a ballad version of 'Whirring' sung in Welsh. The other songs just sound like outtakes from The Big Roar but 'The Butterfly's Last Spell' sounds pretty good.

Ramshackle Glory - Live The Dream

Pat The Bunny's new project, can't wait to hear it. I got this way later than I should have but I have no doubt that it's going to be awesome.

I've only heard The Big Roar (2011) and A Balloon Called Moaning (2009) so they were all new to me, except of course "Chwyrlio". I agree with you though, "The Butterfly's Last Spell" is the best song on the EP.

Blonde Redhead - Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons (2000)

My first experience with the band (I was told they were similar in sound to Autolux) and I have to say I quite enjoyed it. Their were a few more mellow relaxing songs then I was anticipating, but they were still well orchestrated so I can't complain. I'll definitely be checking out some more of their music so if anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate it.

Got these two on CD today for a grand total of €3.99!

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kaleidoscope (1980)
I only had A Kiss In The Dreamhouse before and this is meant to be one of their better albums so I had to get it. I have to say I definitely like this more, the songs seem a lot more distinct and easier to get into. It came with a good few bonus tracks as well.

Portishead - Portishead (1997)
Going to listen to this later. I've only ever heard Dummy and if this is anything near as good I will be very happy indeed.

I'm surprised at how much I liked this, I bought their album based on how much I loved their song on the Topshelf Records Sampler, I've gotten a lot more into pop-punk lately, something last year I never thought I would like again, but it's fun to listen to and I actually do enjoy the instrumentals quite a bit.
