Weather Report - I Sing the Body Electric

Very cool Jazz Fusion album, but It hasn't quite clicked with me the way Black Market did.

Purling Hiss - Water on Mars (2013)
Apparently this band has a heavy psych background, but this is my first time with them and this album finds them sounding pretty accessible and showing influences of early grunge pioneers like Disosaur Jr. and Mudhoney. Second play today, I'm enjoying it.

Daughter - If You Leave (2013)
An indie-folk band from London who are signed to 4AD and seem to be generating a lot of attention around these parts. Sadly their music doesn't live up to the hype as I find it rather dull and plodding at times. Think a more folk-influenced Beach House only without the mesmerising songs. There are hints of promise here and there such as the third song 'Youth' but for the most part makes for uninspiring listening.

Intronaut - Habitual Levitations (Instilling Words With Tones) (2013)
Progressive/sludge metal with polyrhythms a plenty. This is the first album of theirs I've listened to so I can't compare it to their other albums. It's decent stuff, nothing particularly special or groundbreaking but enjoyable none the less. The clean vocals work well and manage to steer clear of being overly melodic, perhaps giving the album a bit of an alternative metal feel in places.

A LONG list of used finds today. The most important find was The Clash's Sandinista! three-LP set: The way it was meant to be heard. For some reason, as a car tape it was not to be for me as it was more at an At Home experience, on vinyl (The Cassette sound seriously suppressed the effect). It was with the lyric poster, too!

Three Dog Night - Seven Separate Fools (With the 7 Three Dog Night photo "cards" originally part of the package!)
Starz - S/T (Another Rock Steady Production that was not Kiss)
Jason and the Scortchers - Lost and Found
Lone Justice - S/T
Textones - Midnight Mission
Steve Forbert - Jackrabbit Slim and S/T (Those in The US might remember "Romeo's Tune")

OK, the rest is for those who know my interest in cheap finds of albums that would normally would not find my way into my collection. Curiosity got the better of me for one reason or another for these albums. Some include very nice surprises or memories of a long time back I felt like revisiting. Others have links to parts of music history that would be normally be found in the file marked "They had to start somewhere" or "Sometimes the greats have to fall down".

Bee Gees - Mr. Natural (cut-out, but in good playing condition!)
A Flock of Seagulls - Listen (Mainly for "Wishing"...and it was dirt cheap)
Blackfoot - Tomcattin'
Night - S/T (A lame attempt by great musicians including Nicky Hopkins to do LA Pop)
Touch - S/T (Produced by Tim Friese-Greene who would go on to Produce far superior bands)
Elton John - The Fox
Hall and Oats - Big Bam Boom (Hey, "Out of Touch" is on it, and it was ultra cheap!)

Clutch - Earth Rocker (2013)

I didn't even know Clutch were working on something new. I don't like it quite as much as Strange Cousins From The West (2013) but it certainly rocks hard, and will make a lovely addition to my driving album playlist.

In Vain - Aenigma (2013)

I quite enjoyed their 2010 album Mantra. It really reminded me of the late '90's and early '00's Opeth albums, but with a little more grounds for experimentation while also incorporating the same melody. I have pretty high hopes for this one, regardless of some of the less than stellar things I've heard about it.

Only listened to it once and I'm unsure what to make of it. I certainly wasn't overwhelmed though. De La Cruz - Street Level (2013)

The newest superstars in the world of glam metal! I can safely say that this debut is an absolute blast from start to stop, especially if you happen to be a fan of classic Dangerous Toys, Love/Hate or early Def Leppard.
