First of all, no. Metal is a large genre. So it's only as popular as radio pop because it has almost something for everyone. Plus when a genre has some of the biggest bands to ever be drawn under its banner, it's going to have a lot more listens.

Second of all, since when does someone not like an artist or genre purely because of popularity.
