Yes, you are missing the fact that that post should be viewed as a two parts. The Dregs track had nothing to with with Frowny enjoying getting tea bagged.

If by classics you mean boring old ass songs Smoke on the water is definitely a classic.

You didn't mention "Summertime." That song will always be a classic in my book.

Summertime is commonly known as a Gershwin tune, although the lyrics were written by DuBose Hayward (see quote). It was a show tune that was strong enough to make it's way into Jazz/Blues, R&B and Rock n Roll. The song was performed by artists like Billy Holiday, Dave Edmunds, Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, et al who covered it. The version by The Washington Apple being a particular favorite of mine. There 25,000 recordings/cover versions of the song -- that alone should prove it is a classic.

By all rights it should be known as a undisputed classic, though I am skeptical and would guess there are a few who would deny such a claim. Still, just a few who wouldn't think it's a classic are not enough to tip the scales. Even if you don't get 100% approval, it still safe to call it classic or an undisputed classic (if there is such a thing).

Quote:
In his introduction to the section on DuBose Heyward in Invisible Giants: Fifty Americans Who Shaped the Nation But Missed the History Books, Stephen Sondheim wrote:

"DuBose Heyward has gone largely unrecognized as the author of the finest set of lyrics in the history of the American musical theater - namely, those of Porgy and Bess. There are two reasons for this, and they are connected. First, he was primarily a poet and novelist, and his only song lyrics were those that he wrote for Porgy. Second, some of them were written in collaboration with Ira Gershwin, a full-time lyricist, whose reputation in the musical theater was firmly established before the opera was written. But most of the lyrics in Porgy - and all of the distinguished ones - are by Heyward. I admire his theater songs for their deeply felt poetic style and their insight into character. It's a pity he didn't write any others. His work is sung, but he is unsung." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summ..._(song)#Lyrics

If I had to pick just one song, out of everything that has been written, as my alltime favourite, "Summertime" would be it. I love that song to death. You heard Ella's version?

Listening to Lulu again right now to refresh my memory and if Hetfield didn't sing on it, it'd actually be a good album.
