I think I meant to say this one more in regards to lyrical heavy music. I feel that if there is a real message to be said than I should be able to hear it. When it comes to that kind of music, call me an old timer, but I have no idea what is being said. There are a few exceptions to the rule, which might make my statement a little overboard, but for the most part it's just not for me. I can, however, appreciate some of the musicianship and composition that goes into these pieces, regarding the Unexpect song.

I've said it before but they're too prolific for their own good if they weren't releasing an album it was either an EP or a collaboration with somebody else.I think they put out too much material & it's a shame they don't edit down a bit more what they do write.

The only album of theirs I can listen to the whole way through is Emperor Tomato Ketchup.
Ah good. I always felt weird that I like them so much but I can't muster the patience to sit through a whole album. I'm with you on Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Dots and Loops is okay too just because I feel it is very cohesive and pretty consistent as far as quality goes.

In the grand scheme of things, perhaps they didn't break a lot of barriers. I imagine that to many people who heard The Sonics in the 60s, though, it could've been fairly revolutionary... we can look back now with the benefit of internet and comment that they weren't really pushing any boundaries, but I think to many people hearing them in the 60s, it may have been a real eye-opener.

I also prefer The Monks, to be honest. The Sonics are great fun, though.

Yes, that is essentially what I was saying about the difference between hearing it now and being a part of it when it happened, and how somebody who was a part of it would be a better person to propely sum up the influence and revolutionary aspects of the band in question.

See that is better. Saying you do not like something and saying basically an entire genre has no artistic merit is not the same. I am not a jazz fan, but I admit the artistic talent that it possesses,

You are right, a lot of metal is basically something you listen to more for instrumentation and musicianship over actual lyrics. I am a huge Death Metal fan, the vocals take adjusting to, and much of it is not decipherable without the help of a lyrics book... but it is a style i enjoy more for the music, the energy and the feel. I like things on the extreme side a lot of the time.

Who the heck listens to metal for the lyrics anyway? That's like listening to bluegrass for the bass lines.

QFT

Although, perhaps there is some sort of metallic poet art community out there somewhere, combining metal music, beatnik poetry, and complex performance art...

Or maybe that's just stupid and metal isn't about the lyrics. It's about being flipping pissed off, all the time.

Interesting band with interesting lyrics. That is, if you find a double album that examines the heliocentric world view and critiques fundamental christianity from a philosophical perspective interesting.
