"Seek and Destroy" might be one of the only songs that gets overplayed on the radio that I don't think is overplayed. That riff is just monumental. And "Jump In the Fire"? Tasty.

I actually quite like Ab-Soul.
Jay Rock is in my opinion the weakest member.
He just doesn't have much or any personality that distinguishes him from other generic rappers that populate guest spots in the modern hip-hop era.

I really like Illuminate off Control System, even if I have become overexposed to it from GTA V.
Soul has a weird knack of combing a really dumb line with a really great one.
He's got enough to differentiate himself in the rap game and I dig his style.
He's able to self efface and reflect pretty well. As you said Book of Soul is a great example of this.

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion.
Deerhunter, aside from Halcyon Digest, are one of the most mediocre indie bands that got popular on the internet.
Also their singer needs to start eating more. Yes, I'm aware it's a disease he has. But I'm sure a few burgers wouldn't hurt his cause.

No way.

Ab-Soul might have better content but no way in hell is Jay the weakest member. He just oozes pure skill with his flow. He is probably the most talented member from the group even above Kendrick imo.

I would rank it

Jay Rock > Kendrick > Schoolboy Q>>>>>>>>>Ab-Soul.

You think Jay Rock, who is yet to stand out in any way shape or form is better than Kendrick Lamar - the measuring stick of modern hip-hop?
I mean, seriously when have you ever heard someone talk about him in any capacity i.e. verses, lyrics, presentation (you mentioned flow, he just sounds like The Game to me) or technical ability.
He released an album and I don't think anyone, anywhere took notice.
He's the only member of the group, in my opinion, that is yet to come out and make an identity for himself.
I'd fail to pick him out of a line up and I've never heard a verse of his that's jumped out at me or even slightly impressed me.

He's just so bland and generic. I'll take Soul over him any day of the week, Jay Rock may be a more conventional rapper but in a day and age where experimentation in hip-hop is at its peak, I don't think being conventional or even possessing a traditional flow matters too much.
Look at Danny Brown for example.

Look at Danny Brown for example.

He stood out to me when he did the cypher with the rest of the group. He was definitely the best one. People would say Kendrick was for his little drake diss but Jay's technical skills definitely shined and that's when I got on board with Rock being the best out of the group.

What about their overall output?
Rock's released the weakest album of the group and has far less prominent verses and contributions?
Should that not be a better method for comparison between the lot?

I mean this one appearance hardly outweighs Good Kid Mad City and Section 8.0

Having listened to the full performance, Kendrick proves once again he's way above the other guys.

You are still basing this conversation on overall content when I'm talking specifically about technical ability.

Have you heard Black Friday or only Follow Me Home?
As you know having the best technical ability doesn't always translate to putting out a solid album but I still stand by my rankings.

I could listen again, it has been a while.

Even on technical ability, I think he only bests Q to be honest, I can't see how anyone can say that Rock is a technically a better rapper than Kendrick or Soul.
