I don't think what you are seeing is ignorance, I think what you are seeing is apathy.

For the past 30 years or so every time Elvis is bought up it's either something to with him being a fat cheeseburger eating junkie who died taking a shit who was in bad movies and stole everything from black people and didn't write his own songs blah blah blah to the point where it's been said so much people are just fed up with hearing it.

In fact I think this stuff has been perpetuated so much I think it might even come as a shock to a lot of people not around then that in some cases he's extremely underrated as an artist.

So in short, pick your battles better because nothing you are saying about this is particularly new or a great surprise to anyone.

Look at how everyone has reacted to what you've said so far. Every one of those people found the way you're making your case to be in some form of bad taste. I am not the only person that has found something wrong with what you're saying. That should be more than enough to show you that, hey, maybe you need to stop for a minute and look at how you're rubbing people the wrong way.
Racism is a delicate topic.

So people are always going to have opinions about how someone should or should not express on the topic.

From the observations on this board, I come to find some are biased in general when it comes to African American performers so its not surprising some would have a problem with my opinion.

Nothing I said is not something you won't find on the internet. Maybe not in a history books because the history books glosses over the truth but you most definitly will find it over the internet and other sources. This is an issue that has been said countless of times and it needs to be said.

I think Urbans point was a good one. It certainly is apathy to a great degree. I don't think anyone is prejudice in anyway when it comes to Elvis, I just think they grow weary of the discussion as its all been done. He certainly was a polarizing figure because he was such a huge celebrity throughout his entire life. I wouldn't say African American performers don't get any love on the Site. The Rap/Hip Hop and Pop sections get lots of activity and people in general really enjoy their ability. The Reggae section not so much which is a travesty because there is so much talent in the genre.

Your right and you make a point.

I dislike when people attack artists on things that has nothing to do with their music. I find it disrespectful. If artists should be critique it should be about their music and not about their personal life, its very immature.

I believe Elvis should receive that same equal treatment but then again I think ALL artists/singers should.

Most music discussions and topics go in circles.

Thanks for this post though.

Thanks, point taken. Maybe not so much biased in the forums but just within certain discussions themselves at times but you and Urban are right.

^Agreed on that one.

Side note: It's not necessarily an unpopular opinion that John Lennon was a terrible human being right? Is that accepted as fact now?

^ I heard he was abusive to Yoko. I dont have all the history about his life but he is my favorite Beatle. I liked his singing and songwriting.

Why was he a terrible human being?
