All of these are brilliant. You don't dig em, fine. But don't bag on the musicians or the fans who love this stuff. And trust me, if you had massive chops you'd love airing them out too.

I've heard all of those except for the Satch piece (to be fair, half of his material is basically identical anyways) and just don't find the music to be worth listening to. It's dull, it's trite, there are other virtuosos who are actually concerned with everything apart from the guitar solos being quality music...what drives you to listen to something so bland?

At the expense of making my music exciting? I don't think so. Also, I'd like to see you play what I play, I don't think you could do it (probably because you don't want to given that your taste sucks).

I agree with Frownland that Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, Johnson, MacAlpine, etc. etc.'s songwriting is often kinda boring (for Vai, outside of Flexable and Leftovers, at least--I wish he would have continued in that vein), but they all have some good tunes, too, and I appreciate the craftmanship enough that I can enjoy even the boring songwriting a bit.

Some folks tend to do better work when they're not in charge.

Pantera's 'Cowboys From Hell' is the definition of gay metal.

But of course they're the bandleaders.

*sigh*

I play guitar. I was in my 20s when this genre was flourishing. I really enjoy a lot of stuff from the era. I don't find anything about the 4 songs I posted the least bit bland.

I'd like to add to this sentiment with a couple songs that I find rather enjoyable and skillful.

How anybody in their right mind can consider this music boring is beyond me. There's absolutely nothing boring about it.
