As a Zappa fan I can confirm that that's an accurate figure. All impressed by 7th and 9th intervals like they've never even heard of Henry Cow.

Läther is a great collection of everything he has to offer for better or worse (though the bits of the worst could be much worse). If you can't get anything out of that then he's definitely not for you.

I had a room mate in the Army that loved Zappa. He was of Blackfoot Indian (SikSika) decent and extremely smart. He'd listen to Zappa in our room all the time while walking around with a book in each hand. He was also extremely rebellious and got chaptered out for insubordination.

There's some Zappa stuff that's easy to listen to, but a lot of his stuff is, well... experimentation. I've only really zoned in on the Vai era though personally.
