What a shame that is.

I know, and I take that frustration out on people here. Terrible.

Each individual american city scene is probably as big as the whole Irish scene. Only act I can think of worth mention are some dudes called crojayn. They're on bandcamp, I think. Yeah, I mean there's an actual graduation to being a signed artist in America, nothing here.

Good bands from your scene? Small bands, that is. And what's considered small???

Ireland has Shelley Brien
She is very talented, and love her duets with long time boyfriend Mark Lanegan.
Here she is in this video with him performing Wedding Dress, but I know she has done a lot on her own as well.



Our local scene in small town Kansas, USA is not bad actually. Love these guys, The Ben Miller Band. Rapidly gaining popularity and for good reason. They are fresh, energetic, talented, genuine guys. I met my husband at one of their concerts before they started getting famous and touring Europe. They open at concerts for ZZ Top last I heard.

Saw this guy at a local show, he kicked some ass. There's some bull**** in the beginning but it'll get going eventually (around 4:00). Cool guy as well.



We also have a thriving jazz scene here. These two, Joshua White, Mark Dresser, and Dave Scott are some pretty solid ones.



A professor here recently told me about Jeff Kaiser, who produces in Ventura near my school. His stuff that I have on cd is a lot cooler than this, but I still like this one quite a bit.

I feel like I'm pretty bad at keeping up with recent local Philadelphia bands, but this city and the surrounding area has put out some really good music over the years. Some that come to mind:

Nothing—Indie/shoegaze type stuff.
Lonesummer—Noisy, blackgaze stuff.
Man Man—Junkyard music a la Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits.
Cleric—Doomy, synth-driven post-metal.
The YMD—Bratty hip hop that sounds like the Beastie Boys sampling 90s indie and hardcore in a basement.
The Dead Milkmen—Bratty, jokey 80s punk.
Ween—Bratty mishmash of classic rock and pop.
The Shape of Broad Minds—Hip hop that sits somewhere between Madvillain and free jazz.
Sister Sledge—Disco legends, come on.
Bardo Pond—Shoegaze.
West Philadelphia Orchestra—Balkan brass dance music.
The Roots—Hip hop with a live band meets everything.
Rosetta—Doomy, sludgy post-metal.
Kurt Vile—Indie singer/songwriter stuff.
Need New Body—Experimental junkyard music.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah—Neo postpunk/indie rock band. We kind of share these guys with Brooklyn.

I had forgotten that the best band in the post-hardcore world is from San Diego until they were mentioned in another thread.



Another addition is Cattle Decapitation and anything else Gabe Serbian has been associated with. I think my favourite is his work on Zu's Carboniferous. Jammed with him once at a jazz workshop and it was righteous, easily the best drummer I've ever played with.

We also have Justin Pearson, who ****ing rules.

I'm pretty sure Carboniferous was recorded with Jacopo Battaglia still on the drums.
