Agreed. It's arguable that Zeppelin doesn't belong in the top 10.

No it's not arguable that Zeppelin belongs in the top 10.

Not a Rock and Roller alive would ever exclude them. 30 years of going to shows, buying LPs, touring with bands and nothing compares to the Zeppelin experience. A lot of the other bands run together and whatever band is found the freshest corner of my fragile decaying mind holds the most resonance. The spot Zeppelin carved out never dulls. The Beatles are the superior band by all but one criteria and that is the fact that Zeppelin shaped my music life like no other. They were everything I wanted to be and sound like and today their music still gives me goosebumps the second I hear it. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, that's not the point of a list like this. I want my grandkids to read my articles and lists as my legacy along with the stories my kids tell. I want help from people who share a passion for Music to remind me of what I may have forgotten. Listening to people try to win arguments with arbitrary opinions passed on as fact is not worth the expectorate it propels. Music is pure and unique for each who experiences it, once you see that you'll really start to enjoy it!!!

Its argubale depending on the kind of list. If we're talking about all genres than I don't think they are top ten worthy.

But if we're just talking rock well even then its still arguble. Though Zeps massive influence and impact is enough to earn them a spot in the top 20/25 at least. These artists should be above them.

The Beatles
Elvis Presley
The Rolling Stones (as much as it f*cking pains me to say it)
Bob Dylan
Jimi Hendrix
James Brown
Ray Charles
Little Richard
Chuck Berry
Beach Boys
Bob Marley (depending on weither you consider Reggae rock music)
Aretha Franklin
Jerry Lee Lewis

And weither these should be above Zep is at least debatable.

The Who
Velvet Underground
Stevie Wonder
Buddy Holly
Bo Diddley
Fats Domino

I think there's a perfectly good case for Black Sabbath being ahead of Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin's influence in rock music basically died out around 1990 and I don't hear too many bands doing that sort of thing now. Whereas with Sabbath there are hundreds of bands making music who still take the basic blueprint for what they did and add their own slant to it.
So Led Zeppelin got the commerical success , well whoopie **** , Duran Duran got that in the 80s , Bush got that in the 90s , Coldplay got that in the 00's , it doesn't really count for anything at the end of the day.

And as I have always said in any thread about Led Zeppelin , for a band that obviously has some of the most talented musicians around at the time it's kind of sad they only came out with (For the most part) one dimensional cock rock or boring blues standards with Plant yelping all over them. They even refused to let the most musically accomplished member of the band do anything of note until their last album where the rest of them had stopped even bothering.

The Who are superior in talent, cultural impact, longevity(Still making quality records). And they put rock opera's on the map. Stevie Wonder is more talented than Led Zeppelin, not so sure about the rest. I have never really understood how Elvis was all that talented, all though I suppose he was pretty revolutionary. The rest, based on this criteria, are definetaly above Zeppelin in an all-genre Top 50.

You people are out of your minds

James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Bob Marley Aretha Franklin, Jerry lee Lewis, Velvet Underground, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley and Fats Domino are not even in the same class. Any list that would rank them above Zeppelin is mistaken.

I can't even find the words to justify that, but I would slap you in the face if I knew you.

Much Love,

Hey, I'd say LEd Zeppelin is better than most of them but it's your criteria we're using.
