Really? I think Kick and Listen Like Thieves are both pretty solid albums all the way through. And aside from having sort of a similar look to Jim Morrison I don't really see any similarity between the two. Hutchence's vocals certainly don't have much of a resemblance to Morrison's.

Which two songs are you referring to out of curiosity?

INXS wasn't horrible by any means. They actually write really catchy pop songs. They have a similar range vocally but their similarity ends there.

Sort of a similar range, though Hutchence was a far better singer and he tended to sing higher than Morrison, except on the occasional track like "Devil Inside".

That was the particular song in my head when I envisioned a similar range with Morrison precisely. I think Hutchence gets slagged because he was a pretty boy dating a supermodel, beyond that hes not a bad vocalist and he was perfect as a frontman for INXS.

I'm more referring to his image and stage presence than his voice...I agree he doesn't really sound similar.

I've listened to Kick and wasn't impressed...if you think Listen Like Thieves might convert me, I'd be more than happy to give it a listen.

The two songs I enjoy:
Need You Tonight
What You Need

Everything else I've heard just seems like droning cookie cutter pop.

Edit:

Ok, I'm enjoying Never Tear Us Apart and Don't Change...so maybe 4 good songs.

It's hard to say. It's not particularly groundbreaking or anything, just well-written 80s pop music, but it is a very consistently good album from beginning to end. If that description sounds appealing to you, you might like it.

Well, why the hell not? I made the decision that I didn't really like them a few years ago, so maybe I'll enjoy it.

I'm kind of enjoying running through their singles now more than I did before, so I guess there is hope. It's still nothing fantastic, though.

Not everything needs to be fantastic to be enjoyable; there's some thoroughly enjoyable middle-of-the-road rock out there, it's just not the kind of thing I can listen to day in day out.

OK, I'll try and hopefully say something duga likes a little more :/

I've always found Husband & Wife incredibly underrated. I think they really have a lot going for them, because although they aren't particularly ambitious or musically adventurous, I've found them to create some wonderful and relaxing sounds through some incredibly simple instrumentation and some very thoughtful lyrics.
This very afternoon I had a terrible headache (which is the result of one of the most stressful days I've had for months, but I won't bore you with the details), and I thought I'd give the live session they did for Daytrotter a listen through. And it was really one of the most soothing experiences I've had for ages.

Sadly, it's not easy to find any of their music, and a search of YouTube revealed nothing I wanted. I'd strongly recommend looking out for them though. Musically, they are a bit like the Antlers, but a lot softer and a bit less hypnotic!

Sorry for replying a bit out of context, but I've got a bit of a beef with The Antlers. I've only ever listened to Hospice, and although I can remember at least two songs which are musically interesting, their lyrics are ****ing trite, especially on "Kettering". I mean, come on: "Because you'd been abused by the bone that refused you, and you hired me to make up for that"?

Am I being cruel here or are they genuinely that unimpressive? I know they aren't that hyped, but I've seen them thrown about a fair bit as quite a good band and I don't understand it.
Should I give another album a go?
