Not being able to sing doesn't really bug me. I think Thom tries really hard. It just doesn't mesh with my ears sonically. I feel the same about Stevie Nicks.

But I also listen to Bruce Springsteen, who didn't learn how to sing until 2004. It's just that his voice doesn't bug me (for the most part... I do prefer his later work.)

But why are we talking technically? Technicality is far from the only important component to a piece of work. It's like having a discussion about whether or not a piece of pie is good, but ignoring the filling and critiquing only the crust.

Thom's voice is out of tune most of the time. He has a similar style to Neil Young, who by the criteria of some people here would also have a great voice. Just because you have range doesn't mean you have a good voice, it just means your voice has a higher pitched version of annoying.

It sounds awful when people who can't sing try to sing. Thom sounds like a guy at Karaoke Night.

Well, I wasn't talking about expression. I think that being a "good" singer IS based on technicality and being a "great" singer includes the ability to express emotions naturally when singing. If you want my opinion on how well Thom expresses himself when singing, the emotions are present in his voice but he tries too hard.

Honestly, it's hard for me to sit down and listen to any song of any genre without breaking it down to the basics. I strip every song apart in my mind and frankly, it's an ability that I wish I NEVER acquired It's useful, but detrimental to my enjoyment of music...

Quoted for truth.

I can't take you seriously if you're going to have a debate this way. You don't sound like you know anything about music, you just sound like you hate Radiohead.

The Radiohead debate is just getting silly now. I stated my opinion and am happy with it, though in time, i'll give them another listen, and perhaps I may end up liking them.

I'd be interested in hearing a Thom Yorke solo record though, just to see how it sounds.

We're talking technically because GrapevineFires was claiming that Thom Yorke is a technically good singer regardless of whether or not people like him.
