Karnivool - Asymmetry

God I can't get enough of this album. These guys are one of my biggest influences.

We Like it Here - Snarky Puppy. This is a live dvd. Not sure if it's on cd but it's some really good jazz fusion. Amazing performances. Check them out on youtube.

Stargazing from Alpha. If you like trip hop (Portishead, Bjork, Tricky) this is a great album.

Ask Rufus - Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. Classic 70s funk. Been a long time since I've heard this album.

Myrath - Tales of the Sands

This has been a daily listen for about a week and a half. I listened to it when it was released a while back but I never remember it being this good. Quality album.

Anthony Braxton - Knitting Factory (Piano/Quartet) 1994, Vol. 1

Live sets from the Knitting Factory is usually a selling point on its own for me. Pair that with the fact that it's a Braxton release and you usually don't have to tell me anything else to get me to listen to it. On this album, Braxton plays piano and as much as he's a brilliant horn player, he desperately needs more albums featuring him on the keys. The songs start off leaving you with the impression that it's just another record full of standards, but as they progress, Braxton's voice becomes more and more overpowering and we end up in an entirely different world from the beginning. Worth checking out if you're into basically every type of jazz.

I can't post a picture yet, but..

John Moreland's High on Tulsa Heat. Has gotten a fair amount of play time from me since its been released. I know a lot of people may be turned off by Morelands vocals, but I like the weathered sound of them. But I also have always had a thing for different sounding voices.

I keep mining the horizon,

I see why people think your taste in music is shit

http://s3.sandbaguk.com.s3.amazonaws...ing-down_1.jpg

I find myself in conversations where I start off saying I didn't like their last record or any one of their records for that matter, but then say "but I love this one", and the same goes for this guy. Didn't care much for his last two, this one's pretty pimpin though.

Frownland 10-02-2015 10:37 AM

My music taste is the **** isn't it, I'm glad you agree.

I got the deluxe vinyl and played it twice so far. Sadly with double vinyl releases sometimes the experience feels too broken up, with 4 sides to flip through. And the deluxe has 6 extra songs on 2 additional sides. So what I'm saying is I'm looking forward to listening to the album straight through digitally, even though the vinyl sound quality is really great. But all in all I prefer Wakin' on a Pretty Daze for sure. "Pretty Pimpin" is a great track but the only one that has the same feel as the previous album. The rest is still strong material, just more somber.

Goofle 10-02-2015 12:15 PM

Wakin' On A Pretty Daze is a lot better in my opinion, though I've only listened to the new one a few times.

Traveling_Alone 10-05-2015 01:34 PM

I'm glad it doesn't have the same feel - Wakin on a Pretty Daze was pretty long. Really damn good (and still better than this one), but long. And it's the kind of long where I'm glad there's not another album like it that I have to digest, because that's exhausting. I listened to Wakin on a Pretty Daze over and over just to let everything sink in. I'm not in the mood for more of that...I'll just go back to Wakin on a Pretty Daze if I want that sound. B'lieve I'm Goin Down is immediate like Smoke Ring for My Halo, but has a much more relaxed vibe like Wakin on a Pretty Daze...so it's a winner for me.

My only complaint about Wakin on a Pretty Daze was its length, I agree. The more energetic and engaging tracks were perfectly timed, but some of the more mellow tracks went on longer than necessary. The album could have been 15 minutes shorter.

ya ok I always thought this was one of my favorite hip hop albums of this young decade so far, but recently this has been my jam and i can probably just move that to my "all time" list. Reaaaally love the dreamy production. It's just perfect.

and i mean it a "night" album but also works well as a pump up day drinking companion. 2for1 deal

Deafheaven - New Bermuda
http://static.stereogum.com/uploads/...da-560x560.jpg

I don't like metal, which I guess is why Deafheaven really appeals to me. Although this album is much harder than Sunbather, it still has those beautiful, lush moments that I expect from a Deafhaven record.

It's a good post-hardcore record, but their are better ones out there so really theirs no need to make it a priority. Best post-hardcore album is Relationship of Command by At The Drive-In, make that your número uno priority.

Dreadnought - Bridging Realms (2015)

Like if Camel and The Cure had a black metal baby with a bizarre post-rock fixation. A mindblowingly good record by any genre standards and will definitely make my end of the year list.

George Michael - Older (1996)

Been on a GM kick lately (mostly his first three solo outings), and this one is definitely a cut above most of the R&B stuff that was coming out in the late 90's. The upbeat material is catchy as hell and the more thoughtful material has a great jazzy sensibility with even some bossa nova thrown in here and there. Underrated.

Trollheart 10-12-2015 05:37 PM

You heard LWP Ant? I was really surprised by how mature that album is, especially "Mother's pride".

I have it actually. Been pretty impressed by it: very versatile album. I'm a sucker for lazy acoustic pop stuff like 'Heal The Pain'. :tramp:

Trollheart 10-12-2015 05:51 PM

Most of the tracks on that are great. I'm not mad about "Soul free" or "They won't go when I go" but otherwise pretty perfect.

Also, you know that whatever image you have in your sig is not showing up, yes?

Fantastic album. I did it for "Love or Hate?" and was totally blown away by it. Moss swears by it too (he recommended it).

Glad to hear that, man. I had been exposed to Jason from his previous band Drive By Truckers, and had heard his solo work (Well, with his band The 400 Unit) previous to Southeastern, but upon first listen Southeastern just floored me in a way that no album ever has before or since. His new one, Something More Than Free from July of this year is also great. Seeing him next month, can't wait. His live shows are suppose to live up to the great albums.

Been there, done that. At the Drive-In is actually my favorite band and I've listened to pretty much their entire discography. Great, great band. Post-Hardcore is a wonderful genre too.

This is without question the most arresting album I've heard all year, she has such a delicate voice but the lyrics are so disturbing, unsettling, and fascinating. It's like dark Americana. Also the music is so beautiful and washed out against the hush of the vocals. (The cover art though...)
