The Turning Wheel

The Turning Wheel by Spellling is a fun journey. Got recommended by seeing beautiful art on Instagram of the main singer and the person who posted it described the album as magical. I definitely think it’s magical, mystical, and just beautiful.
My favorite songs off this album are Turning Wheel, The Future, and Queen of Wands.

Strictly speaking, I am currently enjoying your rec, Marie Monday: another of your off-beat gems. Thanks. :thumb:

Before that, I was revisiting an old classic that I haven't played for years: JuJu Music by King Sunny Ade still sounds great to me:-

Incredible, grew on me in the last week or so.

Friends of mine made a pretty tight record during Covid. Fans of post rock or jazz fusion would dig. I did.

Terrific music for a Dutch play about a Jewish marriage by poet Judith Herzberg and composer Maurice Horsthuis, who's part of the Dutch improv jazz scene. One of my favourites lately, but may not be as fun if you don't know Dutch

Trans Feminist Symphonic Music
by Gavilán Rayna Russom

https://i.imgur.com/zuGSzmL.jpg

Quote:

Electronic musician Gavilán Rayna Russom’s Trans Feminist Symphonic Music could be her magnum opus. An entry in the ever-fascinating Longform Editions series, this 71-minute piece travels a globe-sized path of sounds, sights, and emotions. Through what the label terms “a meditation in five movements on synthesis and gender,” Russom explores minimalism, drone, and ambience, all in service of an abstract narrative that compels at every turn. The first 20 minutes alone, a pulsing space-bound synth pattern is masterful in its own right. But Russom only goes deeper from there, evoking everything from the vastness of an orchestra to the isolation of a single note. Trans Feminist Symphonic Music is the kind of work that takes many listens to absorb but only one to appreciate.

Daniel Rossen
You Belong There

Frontman of Grizzly Bear finally released his first solo LP and it's divine. I'm really only a fan of their LP Yellow House and this is reminiscent of that sound with a bit more maturity. Excellent chamber folk with amazing production and songwriting. Superb.

adidasss 04-15-2022 01:59 AM

Yeah I heard it, it's like half of Grizzly bear. If you like that one you should listen to the rest of the GB albums (again?), it's more or less split half and half between the stuff you can find on You belong there and the more pop-oriented sounds (brought by Droste?).

I liked the other three albums enough to not dislike them I guess. They just never had that Yellow House kind of melancholy I loved so much about it. Droste and Taylor most likely contributed a lot towards that but I think Rossen and Bears drumming were/are the highlights of that band and this album just magnifies that.

Eno was incredible in the seventies. Also love Here Come the Warm Jets and Another Green World, back in the days when he was just known as Eno.

music_collector 04-24-2022 07:56 PM

I've always known Eno as a producer first, I guess due to the U2 connection. I'll have to give his own music a listen at some point. The Passengers collaboration he did with U2 was pretty good.

This always goes on when there's a heatwave.

Peak temperatures of 34 degrees C over here today. This is gonna be fun afternoon...

music_collector 06-20-2022 06:17 PM

34 Celsius?

I melt in that temperature. When it gets that hot here, mother nature adds another ten degrees of humidity. I'd take -30 over that, any day and twice on Sunday.

Where in Canada do you live?

music_collector 06-20-2022 08:56 PM

I'm in the capital, Ottawa. The humidity often reduces me to a puddle. As far as heat goes, 20 would be my sweet spot. The temperature dropping to 15 at night would be perfect for me.
