16 Horsepower - Secret South (2000)

For the longest time Sackcloth 'n' Ashes (1996) was my favourite 16HP album, but as I've delved deeper into their discography, I'm finding a lot of little gems off of Folklore and Secret South. The latter of which has actually supplanted their debut as my favourite album. Out of all the covers of Johnny Cash's "Wayfaring Stranger" (there's a metric shit ton), I find the one on this album to be the best, plus their ending song "Strawfoot" really makes me want to pick up a guitar and transcribe it for that instrument.

It hasn't been 20 years, but I definitely haven't heard this one for a long time. I really wish Jane's Addiction had stopped after Ritual...they had this mystique about them that hinted that they could have been making amazing music like that forever, but they just decided not to. Then Strays and The Great Escape Artist and apparently a new one that I really don't have much hope for...good albums but not Nothing's Shocking or Ritual de lo Habitual. It cheapened them, in my opinion.

Totally agree. Strays followed a very generic "alternative" rock formula and I really didn't bother with the Great Escape Artist (though I thought about it) as I was expecting more of the same. Porno for Pyros was much more enjoyable than these new JA albums.

Well, they did stop after Ritual. I was lucky enough to see them the last time they ever toured, headlining Lollapalooza. After that they broke up, and in the world have chosen to live in, they never decided to reform a decade later.

Upon release, this album received pretty mediocre reviews. I personally love this album. Each track stands on its own and each have a certain appeal to it. Maybe 10-15 years from now, people will actually hear the brilliance this album gives off.

Honey Is Good - Early Morning Are You Working? (1999)

I have just discovered this band today. Do you like Indie Rock? Do you like Noise Rock? Do you like damaged girl vocals? Do you like The Knife? Then you should probably listen to this band fronted by Karin Dreijer of The Knife and Fever Ray. It's like early PJ Harvey but...Karin. Terrible band name though.

Yeah, that's always been the standout track for me as well. I'd even go as far as saying I consider it equal to the original.
