The Final Track 11-03-2012 04:35 AM

Jonny Greenwood talks unreleased RH songs in Uncut this month. I can get scans if anyone's interested?

In context with a new album, nop :p: He also talks about composing, which is what most of the interview is about.

Radiohead (rock music)

Hello Guys,

I want to share opinions about Radiohead, what bands could be equal to Radiohead?
There were many legendary bands in Rock history, such as the beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, The who, Jimi, Metallica, GnR, Nirvana, Coldplay..only joking ;-), anyway you name it and I know the bands you would name....But, this is big BUT!! Radiohead is simply incredible how they've developed MUSICALLY from Pablo Honey to the genius Dance (I mean - Lotus Flower ;-)), it's really interesting to follow the development and found hard to figure out their development because it is nothing like Kill em all to St Anger(well no!..let's say Black Album or Justice for All), most of bands develop(ed) within a sort of our expectation (in a way boring but safeway in the end...however they managed to deliver to the listners good songs in each album(again within our expectation), but Radiohead developed their music not in the same way (ok Pablo Honey and The bends were within our expectation)
so let me know what band could be equal to their path.

PS
I am only interested in finding new band could be like Radiohead....not try to discuss GnR was better than Radiohead or any kind...(I saw GnR twice...whoa...it was soooo GOOOD!! also Radiohead in a small venue in Tokyo(Bends album), AWESOME!!!)
Of course there are so many good bands around also (I like Interpol, Sigur Ros, Afghan Whigs(they are awesome), Sun Kil Moon(Mark Kozelek--you must listen!!this guy is pure genius), and go on and on...)
Looking forward your input for your opinion

Best

What exactly are you looking for here? A band that sounds similar to Radiohead? A band that's evolved a lot over time?

Radio Dead 11-18-2012 06:46 AM

cool

Janszoon
Thanks was supposed to make a new thread but somehow landed on the thread.
yes is there any band like Radiohead? also would like to know bands went through like Radiohead has gone....
by the way I like your skelton pics, is that your sketch?

Surell 11-18-2012 10:32 PM

I could only really recommend AC but that's mainly because i love them, and they have covered a lot of ground in the psychedelic(/)rock(/)pop arena, with some world and classical thrown in

DropThaSystem 11-19-2012 03:29 AM

I actually enjoy listening to their first album, Pablo Honey.

Surell 12-16-2012 01:52 PM

We talk about Thom Yorke here right? Cymbal Rush is the best song on his solo, no?

I like The Eraser and Black Swan more.

Justthefacts 12-16-2012 03:07 PM

He should've made a sequel to The Eraser

Those are really great songs, "Black Swan" is really chilling and and the title track is especially catchy, though they both have really great melodies. But the content of "Cymbal Rush" and how it builds up, it gives me goosebumps. It's like being stuck in a nightmare.

the Atoms For Peace album is probably going to share a lot of similarities to The Eraser, I imagine. It's gonna be slightly more live band-ish, but I think the same music-making philosophies (super bleep-bloop and claustrophobic) are going to be applied.

AND Flea's bass grooves are gonna go perfect with it. I'm actually pretty stoked about it.

Surell 12-16-2012 03:31 PM

I really don't think Flea could do any wrong. But I'm excited too! I wasn't so sure about the Eraser at first, but it's really grown on me, and I think the ideas on it being fleshed out by a band will work fantastically. Nigel Godrich's the shit too, so I think it'll sound great.

Chances are it won't be a ****ty album. I just hope it sounds as fresh as possible

Surell 12-16-2012 03:36 PM

I'm really digging the single, so if that's any indication, I think it'll come out fine. But it I think it depends on if you're a fan of TKOL or not as well, cuz there was a lot of anticipation for that, about as much as there is for this, I imagine. But I doubt it will take the same route conceptually or in length, since it's Yorke's project with a different lineup than Radiohead's.

If it's anything like The King Of Limbs, which really hasn't occurred to me until now, then I'll probably pass...

debaserr 12-16-2012 07:02 PM

Default was amazing so I'm pretty sure it will be good.

Justthefacts 12-27-2012 11:11 AM

^ listening to it now. Now I have really high hopes for this album, cause this is such a good song

wiggums 12-27-2012 01:35 PM

Prediction: Amok will be my favorite album of 2013. :D

boldprint 12-28-2012 06:24 PM

Really excited for AMOK. Not only is Default great, but someone recently got some samples from the title track, AMOK, and posted them on YouTube. I think it also forms the loop on the Atoms for Peace website as well....

Video:

The last minute is excellent. Can't wait for this album.

Radiohead's Best?

What is the Best Radiohead album?

My Favorite and I think is the best is OK Computer.

Lots of good and bad memories in life listening to Radiohead
but OK Computer has always been the best all around.

I like 90% of the songs on Ok Computer.

What do you think?

Justthefacts 12-28-2012 09:31 PM

Well I believe theirs an official Radiohead thread in the indie and alternative forums. Discuss there.

marv007 12-28-2012 09:43 PM

Thank You

marv007 12-28-2012 09:53 PM

I loved Eraser, is Thom Yorke still rolling with that band?

marv007 12-28-2012 10:06 PM

Dont know how to do the quote thing so I hope somebody could teach me.

I listened to the Youtube Vid in #3901 reply, and I am hooked

Radiohead is the Shiznit all the way

ManWithNoName 12-29-2012 12:32 PM

Voted In Rainbows as it was my first and has the most songs for all moods.

I appreciate songs off all of their albums though. Generally it just depends on the timing.

Chives 12-29-2012 12:38 PM

I feel bad for any official artist thread that gets put in the general music forum because then it gets covered up and forgotten very quickly. Technically, yeah it's not a bad placement for the band.

Kid A is still growing on me. I probably need to listen to their other stuff a bit more now.

Yeah, seems like the thread is quickly getting covered unfortunately ):

In relation to Kid A, I believe it took me quite a couple of months to truly "get" the album to the point where I actively liked it. Try listening to OK Computer more a bit first and then Kid A again. For me, understanding where that sound evolved from helped the album click more in my mind.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-04-2013 07:52 AM

Poor Radiohead only getting nearly 4000 replies in their thread.
Boo Hoo.

Have you seen how many replies The Klaxons thread gets these days? When this thread is like that then you can feel sorry for it.

That album's gonna be good. Really liking 'Jury Judge and Executioner' right now. Can't wait to hear the rest!

Cinnamonics 01-11-2013 08:39 AM

Great, great band. My favourite album the past six months has been "In Rainbows". And to think I didn't even like it until a year and a half after the first listen! Well, when it comes to this band, I've never enjoyed the first listen, yet I love almost everything from "The Bends" 'till "In Rainbows". "The King of Limbs", on the other hand, just gets worse the more I listen to it, so I'll probably never gonna give it another try. I hope they can come back with another great album some day, though I know every band starts to suck sooner or later. :p

wiggums 01-11-2013 08:51 AM

^^ speak for yourself. King of Limbs is a step up for me.

As in a step up from anything they've done, or from "In Rainbows". I don't like the drumming, the production, or most of the songs on "The King of Limbs". Especially the production is extremely lacklustre to me.

OOS 01-12-2013 02:23 PM

Yeah, I really did find the production lacking on TKoL, which is odd since I usually love Nigel Godrich. The songs really came alive in their live arrangements, though; I'd recommend listening to their From The Basement session from 2011 if you haven't already, it really does show how great some of the songs could be.

Yeah, I think its a great sign of their stuff to come. I think they should keep going in this direction.

Amen. IR was a decent album, but not up to Radiohead's par. It was very pretty, but, not a whole lot else. TKOL is chilling in a very neutral, detached way, which is terrifying when you think about it and just lovely if you don't. The only thing people knock it for (if you ask me) is the lack of closure it gives. I understand being frustrated with waiting five years for a half an hour of music, but that music was excellent.

I never got the claim that it didn't change it up enough either. IR was basically a slightly more upbeat re-up of music on HTTT. There are only a couple of traces of past material on stuff like "Codex" or "Separator" or maybe "Give Up the Ghost," which is acoustic like that one other song they did on HTTT.

Surell 01-13-2013 12:01 PM

Btw, guess wut:

"I accidentally produced a Willow Smith track!"
