I suppose the first scene I latched onto was the metal scene but the narrow minded attitude of most of them annoyed me then, even though my musical tastes were barely defined. I tired of the scene quickly not in a musical sense though (I still listen to a lot of Metal) and cut off my hair and ditched the pretence.

I find narrow minded fans the worst in whatever genre they prefer although Dance and Metal fans seem to be pre-occupied with millions of sub-genres, with many sounds being small variations on the same scene.

I do think as you get older you don't need to fit into any particular social scene and end up expanding your tastes.

I like Tool. I don't think I'm like that though.

Honestly I can't say I no more than 1 other Tool fan in person, and they weren't all that bad.

And does virtually nothing new or cutting edge whatsover.
I don't know that many prog fans that actually think this way, sure they exist as I already explained, but they're not that plentiful. I find the prog fans here and the other forums I visit (including progarchives) to generally be very open minded. Not including prog metal fans though, they are awfully annoying.

Also I don't see why its so laughable to like something even if its not that original, sure Flower Kings are about as original as Stone Temple Pilots, but they're still a very talented band with the knack for composing really good prog songs. I'd rather listen to them than something I think is crap regardless of how original it is.

I mean you're a Nirvana fan (I am too) and lets be honest, they weren't hella original, they too were just recreating a sound that already existed, but its a sound you love, and thats all that matters right?

Then, Pitchfork-type indie fans are often twonkish as well. Actually, indie kids are frequently complete idiots. But firstly, Pitchfork types are idiotic because they are just as elitist as prog fans! They openly scorn various genres (particularly prog, in fact) just because they're not supposed to like it according to "party lines", so to speak. As for many indie scene kids in general, then they're annoying because they put "cool" and "image" over the music itself. They couldn't give a damn how uncreative the Libertines were or the point that none of them could play their instruments at all and that their second album was a load of tripe. The fact is that they had the best image of all time and that's all that matters.
I think pitckfork types are way worse than any prog fan (Ivan included) you could throw at me. I certainly consider them way more pretentious. Try making a point of comparison this way. Read reviews from progarchives, people there tend to be very specific in discribing every song in great detail, yeah thats goddamn annoying, but at least their reviews are about the music.

Then go to pitchfork and read their reviews, where they basically pull any random word they can find out of a thesaurus regardless if it actually discribes the music. I mean just read this to see what I mean.

Amazing how many adjectives they can use and still manage to say absolutely nothing about the music.

The worst is the kind that confines themself to one genre.
