No, I actually DO NOT like Bob Dylan, and do not know what the big deal is about him? sorry, just don't get him.

And if Kiss is your idea of good music, I'm not entirely sure this forum is right for you...
So they're not your cup of tea, had no idea to "fit in" around here, we all had to have your opinions and your likes in music? You don't like KISS? I do....I never said they were the end all be all of bands, nor musicians, but, i was very young when I first got into them, and they were my first real favorite band. They're much better showmen than anything else. Go see them live, you might change your opinion? Plus, as i said, everyone @ some point or another has: borrowed, stolen, copied, duplicated something from their stage shows.

You and everyone else don't have to like them, thats fine. But, go to one of their shows, and you'll realize: you'll get your moneys worth, they dont short change you like other artists/groups do. They give you everything you paid for admission to the show, that i can guarantee you. I have friends who hated them, and went to see them, and they said"Man, didnt like some of their music, but their shows are kick ass". Any band that does that, 35+ years later? is ok in my book.

The list of artists bands that **** on fans during tours or walk off stage, or cut shows short, is endless, we all know someone who's done that. When was the last time you heard anything about anyone from KISS walking off stage, or not giving their fans their Moneys worth?

They still might not be for everyone, and thats fine, but I like them, and thats all that matters to me.
By the way, apology accepted.

You've never heard a Grateful Dead song yet you're judging them?

I take that back...I heard 2 songs of theirs on the radio today, and i wasn't impressed, sorry.

Since we're still on the subject, I've thought of 2 more bands/artists I do not like, and dont get all the hoopla for them:

Pink Floyd-I'm sure they're wonderful musicians, and i liked "Another brick in the wall", but they're certainly not this Messiah-istic band everyone talks so highly about, just my opinion of course. I dont need to hear at nauseum how "awesome" David Gilmour is. Jimmy Page is FAR better, and Im not that big of a LZ fan either.

Jimmy Buffett-Dont get him, or his music.

well the list is actually good with in my opinion the exception of radiohead who I find awesome...
I would include in their place Carlos Santana. He is a great guitarist but he is just too boring

Well, this is my first post. So, hello all. *waves hand briefly* Now that I've gotten that awkward introduction out of the way, I thought I'd post a short list of some of the artists I find overrated. Here goes:

1) Fall Out Boy- I can't stand the lead singer's wailing and screaming & I just don't get the whole 'emo' thing.
2) Queen- Sure, they have a few good songs, but do they compare with bands like Aerosmith and Van Halen? Hell no!
3) Bruce Springsteen- I find him to be the poor man's Bob Seger. I liked his newest single "Radio Nowhere," but other than that and "Born to Run" I don't see what's so special about him.
4) The Rolling Stones- Now, don't get me wrong, I really like the Stones. They are a GOOD band. The key word there is GOOD. But in no way are they on apar with The Beatles or Led Zeppelin. And for the record, I find the song "Satisfaction" to be one of the most overrated classic rock songs ever.
5) Pearl Jam- I like the song "Even Flow," but aside from that, I find their music (especially their new stuff!!) quite lousy.
6) Creed- God, I can't stand this mediocre biker band. The song "With Arms Wide Open" makes me want to puke! The singer's voice is rough and annoying & their attempt at a romantic song is laughable.
7) Marilyn Manson- He's ugly, he can't sing, and he's unimaginative. Goth rock has always been one of rock's more pathetic sub-genres, and Manson is no exception.

Well there you have it.

I'm not on DJ Phoenix's side, but I think it important to recognize a musician for his music than for his death. As Kurt himself once quoted (a la Neil Young), "it's better to burn out than fade away."

And no, Cobain is not a legend. At least not musically. Grunge would have carried on without him. It just so happens that his death coincided with the apex of his career. Plus, people did what Cobain was doing a LONG time before he got there, like Joy Division, the Bunnymen and JAMC.

It IS sad that Kurt's life was so short, but please recognize him for what he actually did and don't remember him for what he wasn't.

Couple things I have to say...

1) Welcome to the forums! If you want to introduce yourself more personally, you can go down to the 'Introductions' part of the forum (under The Lounge). We welcome all different tastes in music.

2) I think the offending misconception is that this is a list of overrated bands, not a list of bands that are bad. Bands like Fall Out Boy and Creed are not critically acclaimed by too many people (well, maybe pre-pubescent teenagers =P) and as such, don't really deserve a spot in an all-time "overrated" list.

3) I understand that these are your opinions (and far be it from me to offend you on your first post), but Queen, overrated?...come on! Brian May, one of the most gifted guitarists. Freddie Mercury, one of the most talented songwriters. Progressive icons in their own right, they were worshipped by millions prior to Mercury's untimely demise (and still are). Well, I suppose they are a tad bit overrated. But they were better than Aerosmith and Van Halen by a long shot. Technical wizardry is no guarantee of good music (more so Van Halen's case than Aerosmith), and in terms of songwriting ability, neither had it.

Well, lets see. A "legend" doesnt blow his brains out b/c he feels "misunderstood", and cannot accept how enormous he became? That doesn't make you a "legend", an "Idiot" maybe... but not a "legend". Besides, Ive heard all 4 of their albums. other than In Utero, the rest are ok, Lithium stunk, their box set? just a way for Courtney Love to whore out the band, so she can make $$$. Just my opinion.

Buddy Holly got killed in a plane wreck @ 27, and he's no more a "legend", than Kurt was/is.

And this was because why? Oh yeah, HE KILLED HIMSELF. Sorry, am i supposed to feel bad for him? Nope, left a wife and a kid behind, all because poor little Kurt couldn't handle the spotlight and kills himself? sound the violins, doesn't sound like much of a "legend" to me. Sounds like a coward, and a fraud. The whole point of getting into music is: 1) to get girls 2) to make a buttload of cash. If you had a problem with your success/popularity, maybe you shouldnt have gotten into music in the first place Kurt?

Say what you will about Micahel Jackson, but he's 1,000 times bigger and more successful than Kurt ever was, and yet, he hasn't killed himself yet?

Brad Pitt is a GIGANTIC actor, i dont see him killing himself over all the hysteria he gets from press, do you?

When was the last time you saw Bono wanting to off himself? and U2 are 10 times bigger than Nirvana is.

No denying Nirvana were a good band, and I happened to dig their "In Utero" disc, but, IMHO, thats about where it stops for me. No need to name roads/buildings/etc after him, even Dave and Krist said he wasn't very nice alot of the time. Just not a "legend" IMHO.....he is in yours, thats fine.

Everyone likes to throw that term "Legend" or "Icon" around, when they're truely not, at least most are not. Someone claimed Kanye West was a "hip hop legend" in an article once, really? after only 1 album? amazing.

I like Nirvana, but again, Kurt's not the "legend" everyone thinks he is. He was a drug addict, and not a very smart person, if he were, he'd still be here making "legendary" album, after "legendary" album? and not dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound?

My guess is: he/Nirvana would be right where bands like: Soundgarden/Pearl Jam/Alice n Chains are now? no one really cares about them too much anymore, IMHO.

Besides, everything I've read on the group, Kurt was unhappy with the band, and they were on course for a nasty breakup. But hey, if you feel he's a "legend", then feel free.

When I see a really long post, and the first words I read are really goddamn stupid, I'm not even gonna bother reading the rest.

Had no idea that since my opinion differs from YOURS that I'm wrong? Fine by me, the whole "he killed himself" must've touched a nerve? but like I said, I think Kurt should be remembered more for being a huge "fraud" and a "coward", then a "legend".
