Buddy Holly got killed in a plane wreck @ 27, and he's no more a "legend", than Kurt was/is. Quote:
Say what you will about Micahel Jackson, but he's 1,000 times bigger and more successful than Kurt ever was, and yet, he hasn't killed himself yet? Brad Pitt is a GIGANTIC actor, i dont see him killing himself over all the hysteria he gets from press, do you? When was the last time you saw Bono wanting to off himself? and U2 are 10 times bigger than Nirvana is. No denying Nirvana were a good band, and I happened to dig their "In Utero" disc, but, IMHO, thats about where it stops for me. No need to name roads/buildings/etc after him, even Dave and Krist said he wasn't very nice alot of the time. Just not a "legend" IMHO.....he is in yours, thats fine. Everyone likes to throw that term "Legend" or "Icon" around, when they're truely not, at least most are not. Someone claimed Kanye West was a "hip hop legend" in an article once, really? after only 1 album? amazing. I like Nirvana, but again, Kurt's not the "legend" everyone thinks he is. He was a drug addict, and not a very smart person, if he were, he'd still be here making "legendary" album, after "legendary" album? and not dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound? My guess is: he/Nirvana would be right where bands like: Soundgarden/Pearl Jam/Alice n Chains are now? no one really cares about them too much anymore, IMHO. Besides, everything I've read on the group, Kurt was unhappy with the band, and they were on course for a nasty breakup. But hey, if you feel he's a "legend", then feel free.
