Thanks. I am thinking of buying 'Bringing Down The Horse'. That would be their best album, no? Some of the previews remind me of 'All Things Must Pass'.

I'll pick that up.

If you like The Durutti Column you should check out these;- Section 25, Cocteau Twins, Cabaret Voltaire and the more obviously well known Joy Division.

Rusted Root is a band from my hometown (and one of the few I can say that about without cringing, considering we're also responsible for Anti-Flag and Wiz Khalifa). They're largely a jam band, performing a lot of bluegrass rock compilations and they have an excellent drummer. They never really attained a huge calling, but they have a dedicated fanbase. You should check out When I Woke if you actually want to listen to them. Might be a song or two you recognize (though I can't pretend they've ever been popular across the pond).

If you like Rusted Root, hart214, you should also check out The Foggy Mountain Boys.

Bringing Down The Horse is their most popular. I'm not sure if it is that I've heard it to many times or what, but I think Rebel, Sweetheart is, while having less commercial value, a superior album. But I would say both are great.

I bought Breach, but I was disappointed by it. Most of the songs are very similar, and there wasn't much rock about it, other than "Some Flowers Bloom Dead", "Letters From The Wasteland", and a couple more songs.

I rank the albums like this:

1. Rebel, Sweetheart (2005)
2. Bringing Down The Horse (1996)
3. Red Letter Days (2002)
4. Breach (2000)
5. S/T (1992)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

hart214: Looks like you enjoy a fair amount of alternative rock. REM and Sonic Youth may have started it, but bands like Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, and The Jesus And Mary Chain are renowned for their post-punk influences. And if you enjoy The Beatles, you should check out The Kinks. None of these should be difficult to find.

I'm looking for something with a jazzy feel to it, but can't quite be classified as jazz. Smooth voices are preferred but not necessary.

Examples that I own so far:
Yael Naim (a good amount of her music is like it, at least)
Emiliana Torrini's "Love in the Time of Science" album

As you can see, I'm lacking here.. help me fix that please :D

Default Where can I find music like Minutes to Midnight?

Hey guys, new here. Registered to pick all your brains and see if you can suggest some bands / albums / songs that exhibit a similar sound to LP's Minutes to Midnight album. Didn't like it at first, as is common, then started loving it and now I don't know where to find more. Help!
