60's and 70's were a bit better about this than other decades.

I hate to break it to you but classical music is not what the masses were listening to back then, it was the music of the wealthy elite.

I'd actually say that I prefer the 90s- now. Not that I don't like older music, because I do, but if I had to pick a preference, then I'd say the last two decades.
