Basically going to listen to a few of my favourite Belle and Sebastian albums tonight. Not done that in a while and it's nice.
What a song. |
They do some pretty interesting covers, unfortunately most of the songs they choose are crap, now if they did a Punk or Metal covers album that would be fun! and who said the Germans don't know how to have fun. |

Icicle Works - Small Price of a Bicycle The Icicle Works were among my favorite 80's bands, and I was listening to almost everything I can get, including a wonderful 12" of Birds Fly (Wisper to a Scream) tha thad some killer B Sides which was bought in a discount bin. Late 1984 rolled around, and I heard the song in the featured video. By Summer, 85, I got the import to the album I was waiting for, but a little later on I was wondering when The US was going to get the release. The debut went Top 40, but Arista (possibly getting all hype engines ready with Whitney) skipped out on Album 2, although only recently I found out that most of the world also had to get it as a UK Import. Small Price of a Bicycle was possibly the first realisation that my post-High School years were showed me to be late for the 80' Music Party once I finally was allowed to drive, but also interesting, kind of like a Garage Punk fan still getting releases in '68 and '69 long after the times changed, at least through 85-6. Thankfully, most of my favorites were of good standing musically, and being a fan of The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, the type of sound that influenced a lot of what I was hearing new then, the Icicle Works' second album proved to be something I can almost file along with the classics...almost, of course. The song here is possibly my favorite Works anthem. The rest of the album is mainly excellent. |
Wanted to share this as it was another classic '85 memory. I bought the album Night of 1,000 Candles at a store now seriously long gone in Toledo which had a lot of interesting Import finds and some good Indie releases where some of the local Punk scene bought albums at. I liked it quite a bit, and Memories of a friend getting passionatly into this album will remain with me. In a way, music like this made me want to play my acoustic even more. Sadly, the album is no longer with me, but the songs are. Although I was already into great music, this was the time when I broke away from the Pop of my day (for the most part) and ventured into other areas. |
Dirty bass supplied by Jack Bruce. I wish these guys would have collaborated a bit more.

Getting my Daydream Nation on. |
Really getting hooked on Jack Bruce's bass playing, not to mention his singing and incrediable gift for a jazzy melody. Another collaboration, this time with Leslie West.

Another 1985 musicial wake up memory, and one that's stayed wth me. |
diggin' their new album |
I already knew of Najwajean (that is, Najwa Nimri + Carlos Jean), but now I'm "exploring" their discography in depth, and it's full of pleasant surprises. I love the album Till It Breaks (2008):

Robert Fripp is known for reworking similar themes throughout his career, while managing to make them sound fresh when revisited. He usually accomplishes this by altering the arrangements and using different musicians and their accompanying styles. In this case it's Narada Michael Walden of drums.

Such a good song |
Listen to this song. It's fantastic |
I'm not normally that big a fan of Joe Satriani, but this particular track's bassline is gold.
|
Over looked Paisley Underground band. If you like Dream Syndicate, you might take this.

Sunflowers: Happy Birthday (1998).

Deerhoof - Reveille Really lovely album from a truly great band. Not really gripping me like Apple O' and Milkman did, but I would expect it to grow on me. |
Frank Carter left the band Gallows to be replaced by the singer of Alexisonfire, which sounds bad enough as it is to me. However, to trump that, I am currently listening to a track from Frank Carters new band Pure Love.
For those who may have never listened to them, this is hardcore punk band Gallows: And this is Pure Love...or is it The Darkness? Excuse me while I vomit. A lot. |
