ugh the quality on this sounds like it was recorded on a toaster but still a good song though back before he dumbed himself down to fit in with MMG.

Goofle 05-06-2013 04:39 AM

Not the greatest quality. Love the samples.

Working my way through the AnotherLateNight/LateNightTales compilations, this is the seventh installment. For those unfamiliar:

Quote:

Late Night Tales invites the world’s best artists to delve deep into their music collections to create the ultimate "late night” selection. The series features expertly curated mixes by MGMT, Friendly Fires, The Flaming Lips, Metronomy, Groove Armada, The Cinematic Orchestra, Four Tet, Belle & Sebastian, Jamiroquai, Midlake, Arctic Monkeys and more top artists.

Each offering includes an exclusive cover version by the artist and a spoken word story narrated by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Self, Bootsy Collins, Brian Blessed and Patrick Moore.
So far they've all been big winners for me apart from Howie B's, which was pretty terrible, and Rae & Christian's, which was just kind of bland. Tommy Guerrero's was absolutely phenomenal, such a great mix. Fila Brazilia's is still getting lots of play from me too.

I don't think I'll ever be able to ignore my not-so-secret pop music obsession again. The past week has been nothing but ear happiness.

I love that album!

Here's what I've been listening to. Good album, but not mind blowing or anything.

Screen13 05-07-2013 05:12 PM

Great song, but it's here for the classic WTF of the video...The Yardbirds miming to a song that was about three years before the taping, with Jimmy Page miming the Jeff Beck guitar part and Keith Relf looking ready to get out of there at any moment with that damn mustache. Page at least was looking for the next stage to get on.

jackhammer 05-07-2013 05:59 PM

I am a sucker for Female solo artists as long as they don't tread into cliched waters where they bemoan the whole Male population or make insipid love letters to their past so Alice Rose works nicely for me and I will catching her live in a few weeks:

Welcome to the Friend Zone Don't make yourself comfortable. You won't like it.
The only way I'll be your BFF is if I'm your best fucking friend.

Blarobbarg 05-07-2013 10:35 PM

Even though most of this track is just random chit chat between Madlib and an idiot record store employee, it's still great.

crazed 05-08-2013 07:35 PM

Album reminds me of Badly Drawn Boy.

Wow The Greatest Generation is so good. Really happy with this album so far. Living up to my expectations.

What a great song to end an album with.

I can only listen to so much trashy pop before I need something not quite so emotionally vapid.

You went through Brit's catalogue and this song didn't touch you?

Especially after that Spring Breakers scene this song will always get to me.

First of all, I do not require emotion from my pop. When I wanna listen to pop the only thing that I care about is catchiness. Anything else comes last. Secondly, I've only really been getting into her for less than a week, so I'm not exactly an expert on her discography.

crazed 05-09-2013 01:57 PM

Don't know much about Lou Doillon but I like her album, Places.

I think I might actually have to go out and buy this album. It's totally gotten under my skin.

By the songs you were posting, I just thought that you were going through her albums from the beginning and working your way up.

I did. I've already finished them, but the songs off Blackout have been stuck in my head for almost a week now.

For my Cut Out blog, I bought Don't Tell a Soul, possibly the start of the Replacements' fall from being one of the best US bands. According to the tell all book, All Over but the Shouting, a record store got C/Os about six months after the release. This must have ben a major buzzkill after the small success of this song...

It still has some class music, and this is worthy of any "Best Of" list. This song aimed to sound as big as The 80's without diluting any of the greatness of the music, and actually succeeded. A classic!
