Unlikely collab that I had no idea about.

With some of this contemporary folk music and alt country, I really feel like I've found "my music". It's like I think every album I hear is brilliant.
Just a lucky streak, but I really have found many albums in a short amount of time that are like easy 9's or 10's.

Funny how this collab was my entry point to both Terry Riley and Don Cherry
If I remember correctly a friend of mine gave me a burned CD of a bootleg recording (don't remember if it was this particular recording). This must have been around 2006 and I was in my late teens, and both Terry Riley and Don Cherry have become major names in my music world since. Actually, this friend was the reason I even became a music nerd in the first place, and Terry Riley was one of my first ear openers.

Interesting starting point but a good one no less. Shape of Jazz to come and Music for the Gift were my introductions to both. Terry Riley's son Gyan Riley plays some great stuff as well.

Sounds like a more reasonable starting point.
Have heard the live record of Terry & Gyan from 2011, which I kind of liked. Haven't checked him out any further, though.

Have to jump-start my memory on first intros to these guys,
but I'm thinking it was, for Cherry, "Mu" on BYG and I know
that "Eternal Rhythm" made a BIG impact on me with Thollot
throwing those chains on his drums (!!)

...and Riley was both "Rainbow..." (which I heard often on radio -
even used as music beds) and "In C" (which I loved to play vibes to).
