The radio station I worked at brought The Fall to town and the tunes they did are the first two on that album: "NWRA" and "Hip Priest." Great show! (at a place called "Tut's"). Erkki Kurenniemi (1941 - 2017) He even looked a bit like Mark E. Smith back in the day. http://tinyimg.io/i/kw6qsXC.jpg |

Another band close to my heart, listening to this new song. The album is due in two days! This sounds very different to their previous work but it's alright, may grow on me, who knows |
|
Starting off the day with some excellent Pere Ubu worship

Midori Takada - Through the Looking Glass (1983)
https://img.discogs.com/UepRU_43YrbY...-1390.jpeg.jpg 1. Mr. Henri Rousseau's Dream 2. Crossing 3. Trompe-L'oeil 4. Catastrophe Σ Beautifully calm, harmonious, dreamy, hypnotic, meditative, chaotic, experimental and trancy |
Jesus help me, Jason and the Nashville Scorchers' first two EPs are a wildly fun and addictive ride. Cowpunkers unite.

They may not necessarily be innovative but I love them:

On the topic of covers, listening to Three Dog Night's It Ain't Easy for the first time tonight and man, I think I like their version of Woman more than the original, I've always thought that this song could use a bit more fury, this is it. |
Today:
Sorabji - Opus clavicembalisticum Mr Bungle - Disco Volante Leonard Cohen - Songs of love and hate Nick Drake - Pink Moon Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible Sandy Denny - Sandy (one of my all time favorite albums) And I might do Emperor's Anthems to the Welkin at dusk (my favorite black metal album) afterwards :) |

Now listening to a bunch of alt country, and while I love pure country, it's still nice to hear country from the perspective of rock and alternative types. Uncle Tupelo are a pretty ****ing sweet example. Better than Wilco at least (who rose from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo). No idea why Wilco are so well known but Tupelo languish in relative obscurity.

And if you like Tupelo then I'd rec Lucero. I just found them, but they sound very much in the same vein (possibly too much) and kinda rule. |
Ever since Frown stated how he can't get into Arto Lindsay's solo stuff I can't stop listening to it.
Especially this song. Pop perfection. |

^Me too. Stetson in a metal context sounds like a match made in heaven and Greg Fox is one of my favourite drummers.

If you're into the country side of country rock then Waylon Jennings was the law. He had plenty of softer songs, but when he went hard then god damn was it manly. As much as I love me some alt-country rock ****, the country artists were the ones who really got the country side.
|
Waylon Jennings double post cause this is a top ten country song. OMFG this song is badass and fun and catchy and awesome.
|
|
Wait, Waylon Jennings didn't write his own songs so far as I know. Or at least he played a **** load of other people's songs.
|
What's up with that rogue comma too.
|
How is that a rogue comma?
|
In the meme
"before PC's, and autotune" That's not to mention the ****ing apostrophe too. So far my experience with Waylon Jennings fans has not been good. |

Fair enough, I used to be a fan like 6 years ago. Haven't listened to them in a loooong time, just cycling through stuff right now. |
