Dude, I was the DJ for my brother's 19th birthday party and I actually played Talking Heads 77 and Remain in Light.

Mom told me to turn it off when it got to Adrian Belew's guitar solo in The Great Curve, for she thought it was too raucous, and she's a hair metal fan.

I guess there's no convincing someone who has listened to as much talking heads as you have how bad they are. They just seem uber-contrived, pretentious and totally phony to me, but thats probably mostly to do with my particular life experience.

Absolutely true. What did Nirvana do? Brought it to mainstream popularity more than any of those bands you named (I'm pretty sure... I wasn't alive... and excluding Metallica). I really like Nirvana, that said he was by no means the martyr that saved rock n' roll like all his fans said. What really annoys me, to tell you the truth, about Nirvana fans, is when they try to argue with me that Kurt Cobain didn't overdose and shoot himself. He was killed by ______ (insert Courtney Love, the electrical guy, whatever the **** you want here). These people will continue to spurt random bull**** about how Kurt Cobain was the second coming of Jesus while completely overlooking the fact that he was a massive heroin addict suddenly catapulted to a level of fame he never imagined and still wasn't happy. Sorry, it's been 15 years... let it go.

I gave them credit for making 2 commercially successful albums.

I don't think any one band "saved" rock and roll, but I think Nirvana was a pretty f'n big part of what came out of the 90s and got us out of hair metal.

Faith No More and RHCP more than effectively killed that genre.

unfortunately spawning a legion of copycat, hilariously poor funk metal acts in their wake. but you can't hold that against them.

Like I said, I don't think any ONE band is responsible. I think it was Time Magazine that ran an article saying that Radiohead is what Nirvana would have been had Cobain not offed himself. Now every time Nirvana is mentioned I get this picture in my head of Cobain with randomizers and dancing along to a drum machine and just laugh my ass off.
