As much as metalheads like their subgenres, so do electronica fans just as much I'd say.

I have to admit, boo boo, as far as the types of music you talked about in the indie thread, I like a lot of that stuff. However, I can safely say that I genuinely am interested in noise/noise pop, indie, indie pop, post punk, and psychedelic folk type stuff. That's not to say I don't listen to anything else, I just prefer listening to stuff that has it's own unique sound. And I don't stop listening to bands solely because they go mainstream; I stop listening to bands that go mainstream and completely change their sound to appease their record label and turn to crap. I also am not an elitist bitch like most of those people you were talking about :p. Really, I guess I fit in there the same way you fit into the prog fans entry you wrote. Also, you hit this head on Hesher. The MOST infuriating thing about metalheads, besides when they claim they have a "diverse music taste", is the fact that they constantly walk around saying "That ****s *** that's not metal." I have a really good friend I've known for years that is a metalhead, and I hung out with some of them occasionally in school. Things like "Dude menthols are definitely not metal they're made for bitches. You're such a ***got", etc etc. It's like they think I care about what's metal, let alone understand the concept of something being "metal". I'm a ****ing pothead, get over it. I love this thread though, and I think you need to put up a new one. Maybe a comus entry :P?

It's the same social disease that I would say most male North American youth have... A constant urge to reinforce their own masculinity in response to their deep-seated insecurity. It's arguable that a lot of metalheads in bands have become rock stars as an extension of this, (coughHatebreedcough) but I like to think that if most intelligent and creative metal songwriters met the majority of their fans they would probably feel a strong desire to hand out knuckle sandwiches like a pissed off lunchlady without a pension.

I am a huge fan of doom metal (stoner in particular) and I don't smoke weed all day as I listen to music. I don't smoke weed at all, infact. I also dress normal and I am pretty sure I'm not a douchebag

The worst "fans", period, are people who don't have an open mind about other genres of music and only stick to what they love the most. I love all types of music and I am always open to new bands/artists, regardless of what kind of music they create.

Just to make a friendly note, Darkest_Hour, you don't listen to anything but metalcore so it's not really fair of you to discuss other people's music tastes when you don't venture out of metalcore and give anything else a chance at all. I think the problem might be that you haven't found the right bands to listen to. I once hated power metal but I stumbled onto a few good bands. You just have to look in the right places.

If you need recommendations, I have plenty, but don't write off a genre of music when you don't even listen to anything but metalcore. I don't enjoy metalcore at all but it might be because I haven't found the right bands yet (and don't bother recommending any of the ones you like, those are the ones I hate the most, lol).

Maybe there is a metalcore band out there I would like and maybe there is a doom or power band out there you might like. It just makes no sense to disregard music when you only listen to one genre.

it was in my neighborhood, although that was sooo long ago some might argue that things have "evolved" since then. i would use the word wussified instead.
