I suppose I'll stop procrastinating. This is a REALLY long review.
...Update. Just found out that Mezzanine is an ALBUM and not a song.
My inability to focus for long periods of time will now be tested.

Turning off the Coheed...

Track 1. Angel (fff it's five and a half minutes- STAY POSITIVE)
I actually don't mind this so far, it sounds like it's going to stay at a slow tempo.

Track 2. Risingson
I don't like the way this starts, it reminds me of that trippy video that someone posted in the drug thread. FOCUS. I guess this isn't really my "thing," but then again, I'm not trying to find my thing, am I? The sounds in the background sound like a video game I used to play. I hope more of the songs on here are like the first one, and not like this one, I don't really like this at all. I guess I like the feeling of it, I think the vocals are just throwing me off. I think maybe if there were singing, or no vocals at all, I might think differently, but this is all coming from someone who sings. Ookay, it's over.

Track 3. Teardrop
Hey... this is the beginning of House. [=
Now there's singing where it sounds like it doesn't belong. That's fine. =P
I actually really like the vocals here.
I think this one will be my favourite track, not because it's familiar but because everything seems to fit in this song better.
But I'm only on the third track, so we'll see.
Oh I love this. [=

Track 4. Inertia Creeps
Gives way to a fast-paced intro. I like this. I wish I knew the lyrics but I don't want to have too many windows open right now. I'll look it up if I listen again.
The vocals fit really well here, too.
So far, I like Tracks 3&4 the most.
I’m still not sure of how I feel about songs with no defined verses, bridges, etc.
I’m sure it’s because I’ve become too accustomed to the music I listen to.
There’s nothing wrong with no definition, I’m just not sure how I feel about it.
In this case, I really don’t mind it either way.

Track 5. Exchange
This doesn’t sound like it’s going to have the same feel as the other songs did, but we’ll see.
So this one is completely without vocals, hmm.
I don’t like this one very much, not because there are no vocals, but it’s just… weird. xD Very repetitive.

Track 6. Dissolved Girl (I like that title)
Ugh, I got distracted, I have to start it over.
I like that is sounds like it’s going to be fairly fast paced, but the vocalist sings slowly. I like the instrumentation.
I suppose I like the familiarity… that this song is closest to what I’m comfortable with.…Definitely more what I’m used to.
I like this track aside from the familiarity, as well. (It’s even six minutes, and I didn’t even notice)
I don’t know how I feel about this voice with the music.
There’s something about the vocalist, I don’t know what it is.

Track 7. Man Next Door
I like the way it starts, I don’t like the singer’s voice.
This song could have done with a better vocalist as well.
Everything else I like, though.
The song’s even better when he’s not singing. I’m not trying to be offensive, it’s legitimately how I feel.
I’m going to have to end this song early, I really don’t like it.
There was less than a minute left, anyway.

Track 8. Black Milk
I like the way it starts.
I thought a deeper voice would be good here, but I like the woman’s voice a lot better.
I feel better after seven… >.>
The vocalist they picked here has nice control of her voice.
I like the part at 3:00 the best, where there are no vocals, and the keyboard takes over for a little bit.
I don’t really like the part around 5:15 with the repetitive scratching or whatever it’s called.

Track 9. Mezzanine
I love this.
I would love it more without the deeper voice in it.
But I do like it a lot.

Track 10. Group Four
I love everything about this track.
I love his voice, I love her voice.
I love the background.
I really love everything about this, and I’m starting to focus more on the song than the time of the song or anything else.
AND the song is 8 minutes long, I just realized.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but the tempo seems to be getting quicker. I’m pretty sure it is. That or they’re really good at changing the feel.
No, no. It definitely was getting quicker, cause now it’s obviously slowing.
End. [=

Track 11. I don’t get what it’s telling me on Wikipedia. So I don't know what Track 11 is.

Track 12. Superpredators [Japanese Bonus Track]
I’m not sure I like the intro.
I don’t like the repeat at the beginning.
Eh, this is awkward, I don’t know if I’m just being restless, though.
Goodness, I don’t like this at all.
I’m going to stop it. xD

Recommended: 3, 4, 8, 9, 10
NOT recommended: 2, 12

Overall, I like what I heard. It's not something I'll listen to all of the time, but definitely something I want to be able to listen to whenever I want to.

I realize I focus a lot on the vocals, guys, it’s because I sing a lot more, and I’m used to focusing there. I’m sorry. =PP
Hm, I’m really lucky that they had all of the tracks on YouTube.
I really hope you guys don’t think I’m coming off as too judgmental or anything. I really am open-minded, I just typed the first things that came to my mind. I definitely will be uploading this album, though. [=
Thank you, MojoPin. <3

Next up? The Shins. Any place to start with them?

I... do not know anything about the Shins. But here is a list of stuff I really do think you would like after a couple spins if you kept an open mind. Also I didn't really love Mezzazine either.

  • The Arcade Fire - Funeral
  • Boards Of Canada - Acid Memories EP
  • The Church - Starfish
  • Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
  • The Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics
  • Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
  • Gram Rabbit - Music To Start A Cult To
  • Murder City Devils - In Name And Blood
  • MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
  • Michael Andrews - Donnie Darko
  • Modest Mouse - Good News For People Love Bad News

That's a long list. o.o
I'll get on that. ^_^
As soon as I have my wireless and I can upload without fail.
I'm sorry that was so long, guys.
I hardly looked at it fully until somebody said something about it.

For the Shins, go with Chutes Too Narrow or Oh, Inverted World. I have Chutes Too Narrow uploaded already if you want a link for it

I know what you mean about keeping your tastes on the DL, I really had no idea what you listen to. Cool to see you're exploring. By the way, C&C are awesome.

I'm glad you think so, hehe.
I'm also kind of happy no one knows what I'm listening to.
Not because I'd be embarrassed, but because I was able to keep it on the DL for a year.

Yeah, if you ever need an upload for any of those albums which I'm sure you'll like all of them as they are fairly easy to get into and a great start, please give me a PM. I'll get them to you... fast.

Sounds great. I'll PM you as soon as I finish with Meg & Dia and The Shins' album. ^_^

You definitely connected with what happens to be the standout track IMO. What you'll find with a lot of these albums as you revisit them (which you really should do, if you happen to like them even a little) is that you'll fall in love with songs you dismissed on the first listen and such.
