ah right, cool. definitely get it listened to at some point, it's pretty damn sweet. such a wicked band.
Along with +81 you`ve also highly rated "Sonic Nurse" from their later period. I always thought it one of their weakest, will give it another listen to see what I think.

it is indeed marvellous. i find with sonic youth that i tend to know songs rather than albums. i'll usually put all the songs into one playlist and shuffle them, so i'll end up digging 5 songs off one album, 3 off another, 6 off another etc.

they just have too many albums for me to sit down and listen to properly, although i have done in the past i tend to repeat certain songs rather than full records. kind of related, i just saw this poster for a festival over in the states and i feel slightly ill knowing that i won't be attending it.

That is the thing with Sonic Youth, all their albums are consistenly good with some of the supposedly not so good albums still having great songs on them anyway. Also, all their albums seem to have ended up in some magazines best of year list and everybody`s fav album is different too.

They`re a group that are often different in stuff that they put out, but at the same time they`re always the same. I think having three great vocalists is the key (as did the Beatles)

I still need to run through more of their discography. So far I've only REALLY listened to Daydream, Goo and Bad Moon.

Ribbons, I'm impressed you can remember the songs on each album well enough to rank them!!

Were there particular songs on each one that made you develop a preference for one album over another? Or are you really just considering each album as a whole, Liz?

Hi, Erica! I think that, overall, it's the way the songs stack up for me - I tend to be a little bit more of a "song" person. The unique exception is the White Album, which I like for its stylistic variety but less so for individual songs. Revolver is my #1 because it has great songs AND stylistic innovation.

It was difficult to rank the albums, but easy to remember the songs because they're so ingrained in my consciousness. I've been a Beatles nut all of my life!

I cant possibly rank Beatles albums. I have come to this conclusion recently. It's just a pointless excercise as I would never agree with whichever order I was to place them in.

Hi Liz! I don't think I have the mind that remembers albums and lists well, even if I like the songs! But maybe I just have been away from Beatles' songs too long to remember them well. I used to listen to their albums frequently when I was a kid. And that was...a while ago.

Ooo! Stylistic innovation! Tell me more, please: I don't know which innovation you are referring to! I never listened to Beatles' songs with attention to bigger musical issues.
