The dominate music genre is whatever your personal favorite style of music my be, individual preference.
I agree that the Beatles are a major influence and that the 60s era is important mainly concerning the rock genre, but no more important than the 50s Rock & Roll is, or 70s rock with bands like Led Zepplin, etc.
If I had to choose one certain genre that is one of the most influencial genres as a' whole', without splitting off into different era's, bands, and so on.
I would pick the 'Rock Genre', right or wrong its not really that important, or that it even matters either way, so I voted for one of my personal favorite genre's, Soul & Funk.

Metal has always got a bad rep from anyone not into it and in the main you can understand why. For every band that tries to diversify the genre with great musicianship, songwriting or a leftfield approach to the traditional sound (Voivod, Hacride, Celtic Frost, Maudlin Of The Well) you still get bands that adhere to the stereotypical sound, lyrics and imagery associated with the genre- ridiculously fast playing, childish lyrics and OTT stage outfits and it's no wonder that it's laughed at.

I'm a Metal fan but there is some absolute tripe out there that deserves a bad rep for being cliched, hackneyed, overblown bollocks of the highest order. Dragonforce are a perfect example.

Because, the heads of giant chains of radio stations, like cumulas, have a say in that, too.

I think it'd be awesome to see blues come back.

I like my music being relatively underground. That way it stays untainted. I hope boring music continues to be the most popular and stays away from my stuff

Exactly. I hope sh!t, processed pop music will always be the dominant musical genre so all the great music will never be tainted by radio overplay, reality tv shows and casual fans who don't really give much of a hoot about music anyway. I think things are perfect the way they are now.
