OT guys, but how do you get yer'last FM' thingy up?

jackhammer 01-12-2011 06:13 PM

Dayvan hasn't acknowledged the album I sent her a couple of days back :(

For Dankstra and Bob:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eiH0CMqV8O...liberation.bmp
Demdike Stare- Liberation Through Hearing.
A deep step into droney waters populated by shades reeking of electronic psychedelia and dripping with dark tendrils of moss covered reverberations of stagnant water.

It's the best description I can come up with!

dankrsta 01-12-2011 06:15 PM

CanwllCorfe sent me this:

Arovane - Lilies

I really enjoyed it. It's a very short album and just flies so easily. Well, it helps that the music is very chilled, ambient electronica that evokes some kind of journey, especially in tracks 'Ten Hours' and 'Passage To Nagoya'. I especially loved those moody tracks like 'Tokyo Ghost Stories' and 'Pink Lilies'. What strikes me the most here is how warm this music is, almost organic and that is especially evident on the title track 'Lilies'. Who said cold electronic music can't produce some of the warmest and very organic sounds?! Thanks CanwllCorfe for this :)

for Jackhammer:

Gavin Bryars, Philip Jeck, Alter Ego - The Sinking Of The Titanic

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MgfBNd2e4u...he+Titanic.jpg

this is a re-recording of a piece of modern classical music by Gavin Bryars.....originally released in 1969....it is very moving as you might have immagined....but this includes experimental turn tableist Philip Jeck and the Italian ensemble Alter Ego....

enjoy:)

rammetal7 01-12-2011 08:03 PM

Can someone please send me something?

I think that my musical tastes are not very broad.

RVCA 01-12-2011 11:04 PM

For rammetal7-

Agalloch - The Mantle

http://www.no-sign-of-life.com/shop/...h%20mantle.jpg

Perusing your LastFM, I see that your taste is pretty firmly rooted in metal and hard rock. Rather than throw you something way out of left field, I figured I'd recommend something you've shown a good predisposition to enjoying.

Agalloch is an atmospheric black metal band that's fond of using traditional instruments and natural, ambient sounds to accentuate their guitar and drum work. They have some folk-y and drone-y characteristics that make their music a real treat to listen to.

i feel like this band really needs to be heard by more people....my description of them goes like this.....

Ian Curtis and the boys build a time machine and travel back in time to get some great Fender fuzz boxes and some new chic Moog gear....then they rocket through time and space to the year 2025....plug in and record an album....this would probably be what that would sound like

enjoy

Thank you again, this definitely is something quite different then I usually listen to, but I still look forward to it. In return I will send you this.

I Would Set Myself On Fire For You- Believes In Patterns
http://worldpolice.files.wordpress.c...ternssmall.jpg

I feel everyone should hear this album and what great screamo truly sounds like, it's got male/female vocal exchanges, it goes perfectly from chaotic to calm they even include strings (viola and cello).

EDIT: bob I wasn't sure I'd enjoy this, but I did. It reminds me of Editors and post-punk revival bands like that, I never really listened to Joy Division or any of that New Wave stuff, but this seems much more modern, which I enjoy. Then I saw this album was from 15 years ago and was even more impressed. So thank you!

FaSho 01-13-2011 07:45 AM

i guess i kind of did elude to it sounding like Joy Division....sorry they really sound nothing like Joy Division....except the vocals are similar....i'm glad you dig them....they are one of those forgotten gems from the 'K' and 'Up!' records....i'm honestly surprised that more people don't check them out simply due to their ties with Modest Mouse.....

i had a bvit of trouble with the link you gave me....it downloaded fine but for some reason my computer did not want to "unzip" the entire album....it kept stopping at track 7....i found another copy that worked fine and will start listening to it.....thanks again for this....i've seen the name numerous times here and have been curious

for rammetal7:

The Cramps - Smell Of Female

you love metal, seem to enjoy great classic rock....and have explored punk and alternative rock....so here is some great roots music....i honestly cannot describe The Cramps....except to say that what they do is perfect for what it is....and this album (their 3rd i believe) is an absolute testament to their perfection....enjoy

for FaSho:

Current 93 & Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (HÖH) - Island
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_cU7KDumGTa...991)Island.jpg

just reading all of your journals....and many of your posts throughout the years....i honestly think you may have not heard anything quite like this....and that you will enjoy it....Current 93 is a neofolk band from England who mainly consists of one man...David Tibet....Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson is from Iceland and has been in many bands included the influence Icelandic band 'Þeyr', Psychic TV, and The Halfer trio....as well as working with such artists as Sigur Rós and Steindór Andersen ....as well as composing music for many films

enjoy

FaSho 01-13-2011 01:47 PM

Thanks guys, these both sound great.

rammetal7 01-13-2011 04:59 PM

@RVCA and bob.
Thank You! I will listen to them when I can and I will tell you what I think about them when I'm done.

Charlemagne 01-13-2011 07:54 PM

For theFolkslave, I hope you don't have this one.

Laura Stevenson and the Cans- A Record
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YRdYCw_a8P...nsarecords.jpg

I love this record, it's about the best folk rock record I've ever heard, Laura Stevenson is a wonderful vocalist, very relaxing songs, really good lyrics. Definitely my number 1 or 2 from this past year.

It doesn't look like you have them in your library, so I'm gonna hook you up with one of my top 5 records ever, Genghis Tron's 2008 masterpiece "Board Up The House".

http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/g/g...-the-house.jpg

It's an acquired taste for some, but once it hits you, it's nothing short of mindblowing. Genghis Tron are a mathcore band that do not make use of a drummer or a bassist but instead consist of a guitarist, two keyboardists (one of which who does vocals) and a drum machine. According to Wikipedia, they have elements of "IDM, doom metal, electronic and ambient, in addition to their core style of synth-laden metal". This is one of the few albums that I would give a perfect score to. Have fun, this album is insane.

Janszoon 01-14-2011 05:35 AM

^That's such a great album. I hope RVCA enjoys it as much as I do.

i have listened to this five times now....and am still finding it hard to describe....first off....if i were to make a list of 2010 greats this would be near the top of it....i cannot wait to hear the other FOUR (according to RYM) album this band released this year....this is one of those albums that right at 0:32 of the first song i knew i loved it....this is one of those dark ambient works that i will listen to often....it's multi-layered, full of texture, and in no way boring or typical.....in all honesty Jackhammers word about are damn near perfect....the second track 'Eurydice' is mind blowing and may be a forerunner for greatest track released in 2010

whatever astral plane Aleister Crowley is on.....he is smiling :)

Chrysalis 01-14-2011 03:09 PM

For Lord of Sushi

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4LrAkzfpSm...Blues+Band.jpg

This album rocks, its a traditional blues album from the early 70's I believe. I dont know about your taste so hopefully your a blues guy that hasnt heard this! Make sure to at least listen to Blues With a Feelin, one of the best blues standards ever.

well i can certainly say that if more screamo sounded like this i would become a huge fan of the genre.....i love the viola and cello intermixed with just great, well thought out music....this really shines on 'six', 'seven', and 'three'....this album is chaotic as all hell...which in my eyes is great....but chaotic with a bit of jazzy charm....at first i was just a little put off by the vocal delivery but quickly got over that....the lyrics are well written and poetic.....i really like the instrumental interludes....this to me is like a more musically challenging pg.99...it's a shame they broke up

The Fascinating Turnip 01-16-2011 03:12 PM

Turquoise Days sent me this

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...indesiecle.jpg

I'd already heard their 2010 album Bam Goes The Knighthood, so I was expecting a "grand" theatrical sound and on that level they surely delivered.
It's a bit different from the 2010 one though, in that it's not as refined, I suppose, it's not so much about bowler hats and canes.
Quite liked this and I'll need to give it more and more listens to fully appreciate it. Thrillseeker is a damn good song. Thanks.

djchameleon 01-16-2011 03:42 PM

DownwardSpiral sent this to me, well not sent but recommended it to me

I heard the single "The Hunger" awhile ago when it was more popular but I never sat down and listened to this album in full. My favorite tracks are "Dismantle Me", "Coral Fang", "The Gallow is God", "Hall of Mirrors" and "For Tonight You're Only Here to Know". After hearing this album I decided to listen to their self titled debut and I decided that I liked this album more because of the more polished sound that it has.

Dr_Rez 01-21-2011 02:26 PM

For Djchameleon

Domo - S/T
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2nHlMeGUjc.../Domo_Domo.jpg

This is a spacerock/psychedelic rock album.. kind of in the vain of Hawkwind. Its new from 2010 so hopefully you like it as much as I did.

Janszoon 01-22-2011 11:56 AM

For bob and dankrsta...

Truart—Volksstrum

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_m_AAvEL6yj...a95e73e36l.jpg

Hopefully neither of you have this already but I think it's something you'd both really like. Truart is a one man Ukrainian band featuring heavy martial beats, odd samples, noise and... accordion. There's definitely a strong industrial/neo-folk influence on this album, which is why it made me think of you two. Anyway, I hope you like it.

bob. 01-22-2011 12:22 PM

awesome....i know i have something by them on a compilation.....but like many bands....they got lost in the shuffle.....downloading now :)

thanks man....i'll hit ya back :)

dankrsta 01-22-2011 12:27 PM

Ukrainian? That makes it even more interesting. I've never heard of it. Thanks Janszoon, can't wait to hear it :)

for Janszoon:

Dernière Volonté - Devant Le Miroir

http://www.synthema.ru/uploads/posts...-le-miroir.jpg

this is the first album that he stepped away from more traditional martial industrial and added a wonderful amount of electro pop to his bombastic military beats and marching rhythms....the entire album is in French but from what i can tell pretty much all the songs revolve around fallen soldiers of Europe's long history with war.....the mixture of pop music and military drumming is a winning combination :)

enjoy

Janszoon 01-22-2011 02:05 PM

Looking forward to it. :)

In that picture he kind of looks like Tom Hanks which I find hilarious for some reason.

Thom Yorke 01-22-2011 02:09 PM

Anyone got any country for me? Or if you really want a challenge, heavy metal?

James 01-22-2011 02:13 PM

Zero 1986

Really liked that Sabbat album, while no on Megadeth or Testament level they produced some really memorable songs. The vocals grated me a little and the album cover is laughable to say the least. But the music speaks for itself and this will be getting many repeat listens.

Now people send me stuff! I will think of things to send you all.
