For dankrsta: http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...733/657369.jpg Hop Along - Freshman Year I definitely want to send you something because you have really interesting taste and always post something that I've never heard of but end up liking. I don't know how much pop you listen to, but this one is one of the best. It's really pretty unique for a pop record and its become one of my favorite records, the vocals are fantastic, and what she does with the voice and instrumentals is amazing. |

btw. That Hop Along album is pretty nice. Hope dankrsta likes it too. |

for Charlemagne and TheFolkslave
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...GL._SS400_.jpg Lift to Experience - The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads (2001) You two seem to be musically compatible, although Folkslave is into post-rock and Charlemagne isn't (at least I haven't noticed it). So I think both of you may like this album that I've unearthed recently after it has been buried somewhere in my house for 8 ****ing years. It has a strong apocalyptic vision, but don't let it put you off. I don't find it preachy at all. The best part is the music actually, some post-rock influence, a certain Slint vibe in parts and it's just a great dusty, space rock. Very emotional too. I hope you'll enjoy it. |
For The Attitude:
Heroine Sheiks - Out of Aferica http://www.kupindo.com/THE-HEROINE-S...a_O_248993.jpg There's a good chance she's already heard this Cows related band but if not I think it offers something a little different while staying true to the Cows brand of Noise-Rock. |

I haven't forgot the albums I have been sent by various people either and reviews will be up soon. |

Alright, downwardspiral, after several listens I'm ready to put my thoughts down about your Sonic Youth mix...
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/sonic_youth.jpg In short: I dug it. It wasn't nearly as noisy or experimental as I was expecting but it was very interesting to listen to music that so obviously established the template for so many indie rock bands. "Drunken Butterfly" was far and away my favorite track. I love the energy and wildness in that song and only wish there were more tracks like it on the mix. |
Great pick, Janszoon. That's the track that really got me into the band.

For Jackhammer
Dopefight - Buds http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2nHlMeGUjc...fightcover.jpg I just got this the other day and it really reminded of some heavier Sabbathesque riffs with some harsher vocals. I know you like vocals like Pig Destroyer and whatnot (not that this is that similar) so hey I figure ill send it your way. Also you turned me on to Colour Haze which is easily my favorite modern stoner band so I owe you at least a little. |

Ok, I'm a 100% Jazz noob so if anyone wants to send me a good album for a beginner, that would be sweet.

It took me many listens and lots of weed before this one really started sounding like music (take note uglyorgan) - and that was after I already loved Jazz. I agree that it's perfect though. Ornette Coleman is probably my favorite jazz artist. A more accessible but still avant garde album of his is The Shape of Jazz To Come. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Hi0uR7gGLK...jazztocome.jpg |
i have to admit that i thought of that after i sent it.....
|
I'll just download and listen to both. More music, more fun. :)
|
I would have went for some Monk or Mingus for a beginner.
|
Bob sent me this:
http://991.com/newGallery/Ornette-Co...azz-459655.jpg Maybe not the best album for someone like myself, but I did enjoy this quite a bit. I'm gonna listen to it more and see if it grows on me. As it went on I got into it a lot more. For now it's a 7.5/10. |
Just a note for this thread. Dont be afraid to say you didnt like something at all. Its not like your spitting in the face of whomever gave you it. Personally I would like to know an honest answer from something I sent someone. (This isnt for anyone in particular just a general note)
|
Finished listening to the Paul Butterfield album RezZ sent me a while ago, and I'm really liking it!
