I personally only listen to a few of his tracks. The one I enjoy the best is Purple Rain as I'm sure many enjoy too. That for me is his best track.

As the "all rounder" is concerned I'm not to sure, he has a great voice and musician skills but there are people who are equally as good.

I agree. That's why I always say "one of the" for that reason. With so many people to choose from. there's hardly a one best.

I've just searched Virgin Soldiers into the search engine to see if anyone has been talking about them because they are relatively unknown and it directed me to this thread. But I can't see anything about them?! Has anyone here heard of them or have I come to the wrong thread?
