Beefheart is so much better this can pretty much be used as a litmus test to judge a person's understanding of music. It gets into an area so clear cut it's no longer a matter of opinion. The one main thing that gives Zappa serious credibility is his association with Beefheart. Zappa did some really cool stuff and I respect him but Beefheart must be honored with the deepest kind of reverence reserved for a very select few musicians. If you don't vote for Beefheart in the poll you should feel embarrassed. The difference is that profound.

OccultHawk, I have to admit I didn't expect you to write such an incredibly douchy post. I was hoping you were joking, but unfortunately I don't detect any sarcasm, only arrogance and a real moronic opinion without any justification or reasoning behind it. The only irony I detect is that you you write anyone choosing Zappa in the poll should be embarassed. You should be embarassed, dude.

Wrong! Beefheart might be one of the most overrated "musicians" of all time. At least zappa was a bad ass guitar player. Beef has nothing.

You know a good deal of Beefheart's songs were originally written for piano, right? And how can you say he has nothing when he's got that awesome voice and chops to use it? He was also a mad harmonica player. You don't have to like him, but come on, Beef has nothing?

That being said Zappa definitely was a rad and more talented player.

Ok, it was a bit of hyperbole based on the tone of the post to which I was responding. I don't feel that strongly about it but it's true, I don't get Beefheart and I think Zappa was way more talented. Apparently I failed the litmus test for my understanding of music.
