I saw Julia Holter a couple of weeks ago. She was great. She had absolutely no stage presence or charisma, to the point that it went full circle. Her on stage chat was so bad that it came across as very charming. I think she was drunk, she forgot to play her latest single.

I just saw Tortoise on Tuesday night. Hadn't seen them since 2009, so I figured I was overdue for a dose. The band was in fine form and delivered a fantastic performance from a great set list. Catch them on this tour if you can.

The set list...

The Catastrophist
Monica
Shake Hands With Danger
Prepare Your Coffin
Hot Coffee
Ox Duke
Dot/Eyes
Yonder Blue
The Suspension Bridge at Iguazú Falls
Ten-Day Interval
Crest
High Class Slim Came Floatin' In
Jetty

The venue doesn't allow audio/video recording, so I left my camera at home. These videos were taken by another fan, standing to my left, who decided to try his luck and managed to get some of the performance...

And on Wednesday night, at the same venue, I saw a double bill with Elder and Earthless. Heavy psych power trio heaven from start to finish. Elder opened the show to a packed house and made me a fan in short order. I'd never heard them before but they are now second only to Earthless as my favorite heavy psych band recording and playing live today. The crowd thinned out a bit after their set, which surprised me somewhat, but to each his/her own. Earthless delivered their usual lengthy, heavy psych instrumental jamming, playing just a handful of songs to fill up their set. Great double bill for a Wednesday night (or any other night.)

A few photos from the show...

Elder

Earthless

Saw Mostly Other People Do The Killing tonight.
It was absolutely incredible. Those guys are insane and incredibly entertaining.
I was kinda sad that Peter Evans left the group, since he's my favourite trumpeter ever, but it turns out that Ron Stabinsky is an amazing replacement. The piano works really well with their music and he is one hell of a pianist and easily matched and even outplayed the other guys.

Jealous as ****.
Isn't Frownland going to see them on this tour as well?
I've heard the US are kinda big though, so I doubt it'll be the same venue.
