A lot of people seem snooze off while listening to upbeat music. Music makes me alert, especially if you enjoy it. I can understand real serene music but even then I focus on the sound. I'm really interested in hearing what it does for them in terms of sleep.

I'll often toss on something for the atmosphere when I hit the sack, and it's mostly just soothing.

I did have an interesting experience once playing one of my favourite albums. As I was listening to it and easing into relaxation, I noticed that the song I was listening to sounded faster than I'd ever heard it before, which I supposed was me observing the change of my own brainwaves from beta into alpha. It was neat.

I hate going through my CD collection to find something to listen to, so this is the best of both worlds.
i think this is AWESOME. i wish more people thought like this. i don't think it's necessary to turn it all into one file per se, but listening to entire albums is more or less a thing of the past, and i find with a lot of people who otherwise have very good good taste, their taste becomes overly refined and less open because they hunt down the tracks that they like the best and create playlists, virtually discarding much of an album's content. i actually used to be like that kinda. with Tool's Aenima album i didn't get around to hearing third eye or H or hooker with a penis for like 4 years.

I think high quality headphones can be fine to listen to, and some can compete with high quality speakers.

As for what I do whilst listening to music, it changes from time to time: I might be on my computer, with friends, going to sleep (nice jazz is perfect for this), travelling on the train or just lying down, solely listening to the music. It all depends.

Though a lot of the time I just listen to music, I also play it when I'm reading or on the internet because the silence is unbearable.

It seems like I can't fully appreciate music unless I'm listening to it while I'm walking. I'll oftentimes listen to music while I'm on my computer, but I get more out of it/focus more on the msuic itself when I'm walking somewhere outside.

Listening to music goes hand-in-hand with online gaming for me. For the past couple of years my game of choice has been Rift. I turn off in-game music and crank my headphones.
