Queen had a hell of a lot of songs about things they'd never experienced which were pretty fantastic. See '39, My Fairy King, March of the Black Queen...

Artistic integrity does not mean you only write about things you've experienced firsthand. There would be a ****ing ****-ton of imagination lost if that were the case.

Tyga is the worst excuse for "entertainment" I've seen in a long time. If he's using his imagination he should stop.

Not to mention we'd have no Lord of the Rings, no Star Wars, no Star Trek, no Conan, no Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, no Spider-Man, no Thundercats...

There's a difference between emotional honesty and literal honesty, and I think good artists have the former.

^ I agree with khfreek, that if an artist sounds convincing enough, it´s not really important whether they literally lived the experience they sing about or not.

These days it seems to be more fashionable than ever for artists to act as if they had it tough and grew up on the streets, but like the guy who is mentioned in the OP, lots of them had comfortable middle-class upbringings - Mick Jagger is another famous example.

Actually, there was a similar discussion a while ago that also touched on truth and honesty in lyrics:-

The personal life of any star should not reflect into lyrics or in his song as it will be very difficult to for them to provide you with the variety of song. Of course, people will like to know about their personal life, but we should not expect all the songs to reflect their personal life.
