Don't hate, but it's kinda funny how people pirating music has lead to singers needing to tour more in order to make more money. So if you think about it, the fans win either way. Easy access to free music, more opportunities to see our favorite bands, and the bands have to work more. Ha!

Most music should be free, because structure can be limiting at points.

Its a weird contrast. On one hand music is non-excludable, so if you're listening to it it doesn't mean I can't. Also it doesn't cost any extra to let one extra person have it as a digital good. On the other hand we don't want to stifle creativity and artists need money for their contributions :S

Nah it shouldn't, though if i can get it for free i will.

I kinda agree with urban, given the choice we would all like things to be free.
When artist get all butt hurt about it i get it, that's their job and also if they're complaining about it is cause they're not earning enough from it.

Some successful bands do free shows and give out their music for free, i imagine they compensate with their touring money cause you gotta make money from somewhere.

I certainly wouldn't.

How is the view from your Ivory tower? pretty sweet i imagine.

I know the economy would probably collapse, but really from a consumer standpoint it's nice to get a freebie once in awhile.

Artists have to eat and make a living, so while it would be nice if music was given to us for free, it's not realistic and if it were to ever happen, we can say goodbye to the music industry.

To be fair, buying albums isn't THAT expensive. You just gotta know which ones you want and spend the $10 accordingly.

Yea i was thinking about that too, in some sites you can pay a really cheap subscription and download as many songs as you want.

And i imagine artist and record labels are forced to adapt to this so they're making the albums as cheap as possible just to compete with free.
