Recordings aren't music. They're recordings. And he didn't perform anything. Any sounds coming from the venue or the recording studio or whatever had nothing to do with him.

to me making the point that you can express yourself in really mundane ways like not having the band play or not painting the canvas is sort of like me going up and giving a speech where all i do is shout belligerent sounds to prove the point that i am an unstable individual. i still communicated something to you verbally even if it wasn't technically an intelligible language so on that technicality i still gave a speech. probably the worst speech ever, but still a speech. it's like just making the cut on a technicality and taking that as a consolation prize. and with that said...

Recording silence makes no sense if you call it music though. If I were to record myself having a conversation with a friend for 3 minutes, and I classify it as music, is it music?
