I think the food analogy is a bad one and here's why.....

To summarize
A hamburger bought from a burger van shouldn't cost more than a meal put together by a Michelin star chef.
That's why the food analogy fails.

Eating a burger from a van doesn't make one inferior to the other who eats a chef-prepared meal. It may be healthier to eat the proper meal, but the consumer is not superior merely by the food he eats.

Which is kind of the point I was making.
Lower quality food is cheaper, not everybody can afford high quality meals.

Lower quality music isn't any cheaper than any other type of music, choosing to listen to only that sort of music is purely down to personal choice, not out of necessity .

Oh blah blah blah.

This thread really can be summarised with the notion that there are a few mainstream artists the OP doesn't care too much for.

Next.

I was raised in the land of J-Pop by parents who tended to listen to very little aside from classical music. I learned about western pop music pretty much when I went to university in the US. It is a source of amusement to my husband that he gets to introduce me to the bands that were big when I was in high school -- except I never knew that. However, he indiscriminately introduces me to all sorts of music, and I do not know what is popular or what isn't until afterward. (I, umm, still live in the land of J-Pop and don't watch television, so I am still behind the times.)

Sometimes he tells me what I like is really popular, and sometimes he tells me that no one would know who that was.

So what does that mean for my sheep-hood? I'm confused...

Olives are black, pickles are green, carrots are orange.
